The practices of Jesus are essential to our spiritual formation. They are how we do what we can do — sabbath, pray, read Scripture — to make space for God to transform us into the kind of people who can do what we currently cannot do — live and love like Jesus. And they slow our busy lives down to the pace and presence of “the God of peace.”

Formation Part 02
Because we are already being formed by our habits, relationships, environments, and more, all formation in the Way of Jesus is counter-formation. As apprentices of Jesus, our goal is to intentionally slow our lives down to find deep joy in walking with Jesus.

Formation Part 01
Spiritual formation isn’t a Christian thing or even a religious thing; it’s a human thing. To be human is to grow, to mature, to adapt over time. Formation is simply the process by which our “spirit,” or inner person, is formed into a particular shape or character. Over a lifetime, we are spiritually formed by a complex alchemy of genetic inheritance, family patterns, childhood wounds, education, habits, decisions, relationships, environments, and more.
The problem is, most of our spiritual formation is unintentional. It just happens. And often, we are “conform[ed] to the pattern of this world,” more than “transformed by the renewing of [our] mind” (Romans 12:2).

Following Jesus
Following Jesus is more than going to church or believing the right things; it is practicing a way of life. The meaning of “follow Jesus” is rooted in first-century practices of rabbis and apprentices, practices that inform our understanding of how to follow Jesus today.

The Kingdom of God: Future
Despite the state of our world today, followers of Jesus have a secure hope for the future—the now and not yet kingdom of God. But this hope is not simply that God will whisk us away from this world of sin and rebellion for an eternity in heaven, but that God's grand plan is to remake and reunite heaven and earth as he always intended. This paradigm shift in our thinking about the future should change everything here in the present.
The concept of the Kingdom of God is woven throughout scripture from the first page to the last. It was Jesus' favorite topic, but today it is often a very misunderstood one. Join us as we trace this life-changing theme through the pages of scripture from the past, to the present, and into the future.

The Kingdom of God: Past
The concept of the Kingdom of God is woven throughout scripture from the first page to the last. It was Jesus' favorite topic, but today it is often a very misunderstood one. Join us as we trace this life-changing theme through the pages of scripture from the past, to the present, and into the future.
The roots of this concept are found in chapter one of Genesis where God creates human beings in his image so that we might rule his creation on his behalf as part of his kingdom. But at the start of the New Testament Jesus appears declaring that God's kingdom is arriving. What happened? Where did the kingdom go?

Through both power encounters and daily practices that excavate space in our busy lives, the Spirit of God transforms us from the inside out.

The Method Part 01: Be With Jesus
In an age where all sorts of people are vying for our attention, offering little of substance in return for our loyalty, Jesus of Nazareth stands alone as the one who can offer us life in all its fullness. Giving us a method of following him that is just as transformational today as it was for his first apprentices 2,000 years ago, Jesus begins by inviting us to simply be with him—to learn to value and enjoy his presence both in our individual lives and as we gather together.

Calling on the Name of the LORD
Statistics tell us that the Church in the West is in an irreversible decline without the intervention of a God who brings dead things back to life. Starting with the foundation of the first mention of prayer in scripture from Genesis 4:26, Rich Kirby explores how we must call on the name of the LORD to fulfill his unchanging promises in our day and build a church dependent on a move of God.
