Everyday Creation

About Everyday Creation

This show has to do with different kinds of creation: human, divine, and a third kind that connects the two. Our human creativity is easy to talk about because clearly we're prolific creators. We make music, we write, we cook; we establish businesses, we design gardens, we invent things. The list goes on and on. Another kind of creation is divine. We feel its presence when, for example, we contemplate birth, death, our life purpose, or have a quiet realization that there's something bigger than us. The third kind is perhaps a little more difficult to grasp and yet, with a little practice, it's easy to put into action. This is the personal power each of us has to direct our thoughts, words and actions every day toward what we want in our life and world, rather than what we don't want. This sounds heavier than it is. For me, this show is an acknowledgment that while we're all here to learn and grow and do our best, there's still plenty of opportunity to relax, laugh, love, and enjoy this playground we call life. So my hope is that you'll get some enjoyment and illumination out of these episodes. Here you'll find interviews with delightfully creative individuals; short stories about some who have passed away; and essays about personal power. I'm Kate Jones, host and creator of Everyday Creation. Thank you for following my show.

Ozzy Osbourne Found Success Whether He Played a Madman or a Family Guy

It seems appropriate to lead with Ozzy Osbourne's wild persona because he did, after all, bite off the head of a bat. He also played kind of a regular family man on the reality TV hit "The Osbournes." Co-founder of the influential heavy metal band Black Sabbath, Osbourne enjoyed a lot of success in his career. He also abused some heavy-duty substances. You'll hear more about him in this short story. And you can find various versions of "Crazy Train," the highlighted song in this episode...

Chuck Mangione was a Young Man with a Horn Who Ended Up Doing Very Well for Himself

As a musical 10-year-old, future Grammy winner Chuck Mangione took up the trumpet after seeing the 1950 movie "Young Man With a Horn." Directed by Michael Curtiz, the film had an all-star cast: Lauren Bacall, Kirk Douglas, Hoagy Carmichael and Doris Day. It's available on Prime Video. The picture that accompanies the Amazon listing also appears in the chapters. Along with that movie, Mangione's mom and dad had an influence on their son's career too. Find out how in this short story abou...

Alan Bergman was Half of the Creative Duo Who Wrote Award-Winning Lyrics for TV and Film

Alan and Marilyn Bergman sure knew how to put words to music, and they did that successfully over four decades during which they won Academy Awards and Emmys. One of those award-winning songs is "Windmills of Your Mind" from the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair." Here's the official Sting version of the song on YouTube. And here's a short with an interesting analysis of the song. Alan died last year, three years after his wife died. They were married from 1958 to 2022. Marilyn's tri...
