10. Rowan on life after university, mental health and groupthink

In this episode I was joined by Rowan. This turned into a diverse episode with many talking points. We touched on life after university and the struggle of the realisation how grey “adult working” life can be. This topic involved whether work does not provide us with meaningful relationships or whether people simply aren’t realistic about how routinised and mundane working is. Maybe we have even lost the capacity to the view beauty in the mundane everyday life?

This discussion moved into the topic of mental health. We discussed whether the transformations of traditional ways of living, such as community and religion, had an impact on what now seems to be an increasingly bigger issue amongst people. Maybe it boils down to a lack of roadmap for life or an increasing disconnection.

We also talked about Jordan Peterson and the tendency for his opponents to take what he says out of context which is both shameful and unfortunate. His knowledge about the danger of groupthink is an important topic in contemporary society. We discussed how groupthink can create harmful blind spots and how easy it is to misrepresent reality.

To end with som positivity, we discussed that there is a hopeful future ahead, some ideas of self-improvement and some other hippy dippy new age stuff.

His explanation is clear to follow so do not shy away from it – You might very well get a better understanding of the current times we live in.

We have a brief discussion about crypto and its potential impact on the economics.

It wouldn't be Everyday Discussions without some philosophical undertakings. 8. Luka on meditation, reality and psychedelics

“The well is as deep as it can go, and if you fall in it be sure to know how to get out”

In this episode, I am joined by my good friend Luka and we surely got into some deep discussions.

Luka outlines his inroad into the practise of meditation, how powerful it can be and ways of starting out as a beginner. The discussion continues into how there is not one definite personality to a person and how weird the statement “be the best version of yourself” actually is.

We also discuss the nature of reality, which inevitable lead us into the topic of psychedelics.

Luka offers a very nuanced picture of these tools. Both by describing how potentially destructive they can be on the psyche of people not prepared for it, but also how psychedelics also can be profoundly positive to one’s life.
