6|His Burden is Light

Come unto me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  Mathew 11:28-30  Everyone has a song that comes from the heart, resistance to that, can come from fear and burdens from self and/or others which will definitely cause tension in the voice. I don't think you're thinking about that when you're singing in the shower! My student might say, "if you heard me in the shower, you would know I just sang it perfectly, I don't know what happens when I get in front of you" I think you know the answer to that comment ;)

5|Thoughts and the Mind

How we think about our voice really matters. The subconscious brain wants to validate what you believe by making it happen. Think about the fact that you are a good singer in training, you can do what you set your mind to, so something simple like thinking a pitch or notes before you sing them greatly increases your chance for success. The voice is in direct connection to the brain, amazing how God created the voice to work. Try vocal slides to bypass the judgement part of the mind.  The brain is the manager and you are the director. This is such a fun subject and puts you, the singer, in the driver seat. Future episodes will feature more about 'the mind and singing'.

4|Why We Sing part 2

Today we are touching on how sound feels in the body and how we are greatly benefited by having a child like attitude in order to experience vocal freedom. Mathew 18: verses 3 & 4 shares a beautiful insight to this understanding. If you are experiencing any issues with tension or lack of vocal freedom, you have come to the right place. We will explore why that might be and solutions to setting the voice free.
