Despite this upbringing, she decided to rebel against her family and their customs. Searching for fulfillment, she explored different paths but eventually hit a low point as an agnostic necromancer, seeking answers in the world of spirits and crystals. Despite her efforts, she couldn't find happiness or contentment and instead felt overwhelmed by anger and depression. Mary Ortiz became a born-again believer at thirteen but was confronted with life and family circumstances typically reserved for adults. Despite the obstacles, she persevered and continued to fight. As an adult, she found herself in a marriage that deteriorated into physical abuse. Feeling abandoned and angry, she asked herself, "Where is God, and why am I going through this?"
