What will your grandchildren believe about God? Not what you hope they’ll believe, but what they’ll believe because of what they saw in you.
In this opening episode of our new series, Heirs to the Kingdom, we follow one great thread that runs through all of Scripture: God wants to be our God, and He wants us to be His people, from one generation to the next. We start with God’s covenant with Abraham: “and your descendants after you” (Genesis 17:7-8). Then we stand with Israel at the edge of the promised land as Moses calls them to love the Lord with all their heart and to teach His words diligently to their children, at the table, on the road, at bedtime, and in the morning (Deuteronomy 6:1-9).
We also face a sobering warning. Just one generation after Joshua, “there arose another generation… who did not know the Lord” (Judges 2:10). Knowing about God has never been enough. Faithful obedience is how we show our love for Him (1 John 5:1-4), and the home is the first mission field.
Finally, we turn to Galatians, where Paul shows that all who are baptized into Christ are Abraham’s descendants, “heirs according to promise” (Galatians 3:26-29; 4:4-7). If you’re an heir, the question is: who is going to inherit this faith from you?
Key verse: “Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God” (Galatians 4:7).

An Audience of One
Every one of us lives for an audience. The question is whether that audience is God. In this final episode of our study on pursuing distinctive living, and the close of our larger look at the blueprints for a growing church, we open 1 Thessalonians 4:1, where Paul says Christians are taught “how you ought to walk and please God” and then calls them to “excel still more.” We look at the three things Scripture says pull us away from pleasing Him (the flesh, self-centeredness, and the need to please people), four things we must strive for every single day, and nine clear, biblical ways to bring God pleasure. Then we ask the question every congregation has to face: blueprints don’t build anything by themselves, so are you doing your part? Key verse: 1 Peter 2:9.

The Mirror That Changes What It Reflects
There’s a single Greek word hiding behind one of the New Testament’s boldest promises, and once you take it apart, you can’t unsee what it demands of you. This week we dig into the word “transform,” from the Greek metamorphoo, the same root that gives us metamorphosis, and ask what it actually means for a Christian to change form rather than just change behavior. We trace it from Paul’s mirror image in 2 Corinthians 3 to the renewed mind of Romans 12, land on five specific, checkable ways James and Peter say that transformation shows up in a life, and ask whether what we’re chasing is real change or just a better disguise. Key verse: 1 Peter 2:9.
