Developing future nurses through our new Adult Nursing Degree Apprenticeship
In this National Apprenticeship Week episode, Lucy Brandram speaks with Jody Ede (Director of Nursing) and Elle Hammond (Programme Lead) about how NHS Trusts can identify and nurture future nurses through the Adult Nursing Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Exeter. They explore practical ways clinical leaders can spot staff with potential, boost their confidence, and support them before and during apprenticeship study. The discussion highlights the challenges facing mature learners, how the University’s experienced apprenticeship team provides tailored academic and pastoral support, and the importance of partnership working with employers. The team also introduce the programme’s innovative workplace‑based “innovation module,” designed to help degree apprentices (DAs) create real, evidence‑based improvements in their clinical environments — giving employers tangible value and enhancing patient care.
