Krista O'Reilly-Davi-Digui: Embracing Midlife with Joy and Freedom

“It is time to search out your uniqueness, applaud and acknowledge yourself, and let your own light shine.” ~ Debbie Ford Guest Introduction: Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life: Travel Edition! I’m Cindy MacMillan, and it’s an absolute joy to share this adventure with you. Travel isn’t just about where you go—it’s about who you become along the way. And I’m so glad you’re here, ready to explore, dream, and discover. After today’s conversation with Joyful Living Educator, Krista O'Reilly-Davi-Digui, I’ll be taking a break from recording new episodes as I reimagine and rebrand the podcast. This pause is intentional—because just like travel, growth happens when we give ourselves space to reflect, refine, and create something even more meaningful. Thank you for being part of this journey. I can’t wait to share what’s next! So, grab your coffee, get comfy, and let’s dive into the incredible possibilities that await. It’s my pleasure to formally introduce my guest. Krista O'Reilly-Davi-Digui offers her work as a writer, mind-body coach, and Joyful Living Educator. Through story, grief and trauma-informed education, and brave community, Krista’s words and work empower midlife women to befriend their True Selves and (re)claim freedom, wholeness, and joy. Connect with her at alifeinprogress.ca (http://alifeinprogress.ca/). Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: 2:30 My background is in education. I chose to stay home and homeschool my children, but as I approached 40 and faced my own midlife crossroads, I had a very clear knowing that it was time for me to go back to school and step into that dream number two. 4:17 I had to remind myself that I wasn’t claiming to have it all figured out—I was simply acknowledging what I needed. 5:37 If I’m honest, I never approach things head-on, like saying, “We’re going to learn about joy.” Many people admit they don’t know how to access joy or where to begin. But to me, that feels too big and elusive. Instead, I start with something more foundational—building a friendship with ourselves first. 16:40 Joy is one of the most vulnerable emotions. Like happiness, many people keep it at arm’s length because allowing themselves to feel too good can be scary. There’s often a fear—what happens when the next bad thing comes? 18:42 Some seasons feel rockier, while others are more intimate and comfortable. But like any relationship, it requires attention—an investment of energy and a choice to show up and practice. It’s not like signing a marriage certificate and assuming no more effort is needed. It takes ongoing work, which makes it vulnerable. 29:12 Inner child work isn’t a primary focus of my approach, but it naturally emerges along the way. 35:50 One of the root stories I grew up with was that being good and compassionate meant giving everything away. Over time, I had to learn to hold onto some of my money—not giving away every moment or every penny—for my own well-being and the stability of my children. 41:44 I primarily work with people in two ways: one-on-one coaching and my Brave and Beautiful community, which is designed for midlife women—mainly in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and early 70s, though there are some outliers. I let people decide for themselves if it’s the right fit, as long as they know my work is centered on the needs and experiences of midlife women. Adele Lapointe: Essential Travel Organization Strategies

“Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor – it’s anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.” ~ Peter Walsh, Professional Organizer Guest Introduction: Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life: Travel Edition. I’m Cindy MacMillan, your host and the owner of Pangea World Travel Agency, a boutique agency located on the Space Coast of Florida. Today, we’re diving into the art of organization with a professional organizer. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to get your home or office in order before a trip, you’re in the right place. This episode is all about simple, realistic steps to streamline your packing, manage travel documents, and tackle those ever-growing pre-trip to-do lists. From personal essentials to business priorities, you’ll come away with actionable tips to help you feel prepared, focused, and stress-free for your next journey. I’m delighted to introduce Adele LaPointe, whose thoughtful approach to organization transforms even the most daunting tasks into achievable goals. Let’s dive in! Adele is a  Professional Organizer and Author. Her business Chaos to Clarity (https://chaostoclarity.ca/) has been teaching overwhelmed people to create organized systems that help them see clarity in their lives for 20 years. Adele is still very passionate about helping people because she has personally seen how being organized can be life-changing.  She likes to share that she was her first client.  Having gone through many different challenges she knows how life’s situations can create chaos in our lives.  With experience, creativity and a non-judgmental approach Adele loves the challenge of creating systems and environments that work for her clients in their homes and offices. In Adele’s book, Get Organized for Life 7 Steps to Take You From Chaos to C.L.A.R.I.T.Y, she teaches her process on how she assesses her clients' situations and comes up with effective solutions. Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: Welcome to the podcast Adele. 2:48 I like lists because they help clear my mind—they're a simple way to "dump" everything onto paper (or a device). I don’t know about you, but when I have things to do, my mind keeps running in circles. Did I remember everything? Did I forget something? That’s why having a list is so helpful. Once it's written down, it's out of your head, and all you have to do is refer back to it. A list can take any form—a note on your phone, a voice memo, a sticky note, or even a scrap of paper. Whatever works best for you to stay organized and at ease. 3:25 Before you go on a trip, one of the best things you can do is create a designated space for everything you’ll need. I’ve helped many clients who feel overwhelmed, saying, "I need to go on a trip, but I don’t know where to start, and I’m too busy." My advice? Choose one spot—whether it’s an open suitcase, a spare room, a couch, or a chair—and make it your travel prep area. As you go about your routine, start placing everything you’ll need for your trip there. For example, do your laundry a week or two before you leave. Pick out the clothes you want to bring, make sure they’re clean and folded, and place them in your designated spot. This simple habit keeps you organized and reduces last-minute stress. 9:16 I always suggest to my clients that if there are certain travel essentials—like your favorite neck pillow, special headphones, or anything else you love to have on a flight—pack them in advance. Keep these items in a small bag or container inside your suitcase. That way, when you open your suitcase, everything is already together, ready to go. You won’t have to scramble at the last minute or repurchase something at the airport just because you forgot where you put it. 13:18 I hear this a lot in home organization, though it applies just as well to travel. How many times do we say, "I’ll take care of that when I get back," or "I’ll deal with it once I move?" If you find yourself thinking, "I’m too busy; I’ll just do it later," try to pause and ask, "Can I take a few minutes to do this now?" Taking care of small tasks before you leave means you’ll come home to less stress and a smoother transition back into daily life. 18:52 Organization is really just about keeping similar things together. Even in a hotel room, I like the idea of having a designated technology area—one spot where everyone plugs in their phones, laptops, and other electronics. This helps avoid the common scenario where you charge your phone next to the bed, grab it in the morning, and go about your day—only to realize later that you left behind a charger or another device. Creating a central charging station keeps everything in one place and makes it easier to pack up when it’s time to leave. Chris Shelley: Exploring NYC, One Step at a Time

“New York is a city of possibility and endless exploration. There’s always something new to discover around every corner.” – Elizabeth Gilbert Guest Introduction: Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life: Travel Edition. I’m Cindy MacMillan, your host and the owner of Pangea World Travel Agency, a boutique agency located on the Space Coast of Florida. If you enjoy today’s episode, I’d love it if you shared it, left a review, or spread the word. Your support helps us inspire even more travelers to embark on their own adventures. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea, settle in, and let’s explore the world together—one incredible journey at a time. Now, it’s my pleasure to introduce our guest today. Chris Shelley is a licensed New York City Sightseeing Guide. He offers private walking tours through his company Walk With Chris. He is also a Professional Wedding Officiant who has performed hundreds of ceremonies all around the country. His book Best Ceremony Ever, published by WW Norton, helps couples and wedding pros make ceremonies fun. He's a very social guy who loves his two very social, very unique jobs. With his diverse experiences and deep love for New York City, Chris is sure to bring fresh insights and great stories to today’s conversation! Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: Welcome to the podcast Chris. 1:58 I moved to New York City in 1992, right after graduating from Boston University, where I was part of a small acting conservatory. All 12 of us in the program moved to New York, hoping to make it in theater—or maybe even TV and film—since so much of the industry was based there. I was such a good actor that I ended up working on Wall Street. 4:40 My wife and I were in New Orleans, Louisiana, taking a walking tour with a local guide—something we love to do wherever we travel. We've done walking tours all over the world—Italy, Iceland, France, the Czech Republic, and many other places. But during this particular tour, I had a Eureka moment. I suddenly thought, Could I do this? It had everything I loved—social interaction, storytelling, even elements of stand-up and acting. I had always assumed you needed to be a history professor or an expert to lead tours, but in that moment, I started to see it differently. 9:35 When I take people to Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Grand Central, and other iconic landmarks, that’s where I truly shine—I light up because I’m genuinely interested. Sure, I could learn a bunch of facts about different parts of the city, but without a personal connection, it just wouldn’t be as engaging. 14:56 Tourists often stick to the middle of Manhattan and rarely venture to its edges. 28:41 I’d take them to Rockefeller Plaza. Yes, it’s touristy, but it still feels like a unique and fascinating hub of the world. Unlike Times Square, it isn’t all about commercial glitz—it’s about the stunning architecture and the iconic sunken plaza. For part of the year, it’s a skating rink, but the rest of the time, it transforms into a space for art exhibits and picnic tables. It’s an incredible place with an energy all its own. 31:23 Rockefeller Center, the southeast corner of Central Park, and Washington Mews.
