   Zootopia Pt. Two

It’s a dog eat dog world but Zootopia PD’s first bunny officer, Judy Hopps, is out to make her mark in a police force dominated by large mammals. Sick of parking duty, Judy takes up a missing otter’s cold case, vowing to resign from the force if she cannot find the missing Predator mammal in just 48 hours. Determined to keep her badge, Hopps enlists the help of street smart and morally dubious con artist, Nick Wilde, a fox from the wrong side of the tracks. Together, this unlikely duo adventure through Zootopia’s diverse neighborhoods to solve the disappearance Emmitt Otterton. In so doing, they will uncover a conspiracy bigger than they ever imagined. 6 years have passed since Zootopia was released to immense critical and box office success in 2016. Does this film, which tackles such heavy topics as institutionalized racism, workplace discrimination, and corrupt politics through a world of anthropomorphized animals still work in a post-pandemic world? Join Madi and Keith as they share their unvarnished opinions in the first of two episodes recapping 2016’s Best Animated Feature Oscar winner. And when you’re finished listening, we want to hear from YOU! Does Zootopia make you happy as a clam, or do you think it handled its messages like a bull in a China shop? Let Madi and Keith know what you think and interact with them on Instagram: @RejectsPodcast, @MadiAndTheMouse, and @KeithMaultbay. Zootopia is Walt Disney Animation Studio’s 55th feature length animated film and stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Jenny Slate, and Shakira in notable roles. Directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Encanto) and Rich Moore (Wreck It Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet) and written by Jared Bush (Moana, Encanto) and Phil Johnston (Wreck It Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet), Zootopia was a sleeper hit success at the box office in the spring of 2016, grossing over a billion dollars in its initial theatrical release. Popular with audiences and critics alike, Zootopia beat out Moana to win the Annie Award, the Golden Globe, and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film of 2016. Zootopia streams on Disney+ with a subscription.

   Snow White Pt. Two

This week we are continuing our recap of "the one that started it all," Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Being the first full length animated film Walt Disney Productions released, Snow White has cemented herself into the very backbone of what makes the Disney company. Originally released in December of 1937 at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, shortly followed by a nationwide release in February of 1938, the film was met with great commercial success and even received a special Academy Award. Because of this, animation and what was once thought of as "Walt Disney's Folly" by critics was now being seen in a new light... a more profitable light, one that kickstarted the popularity of animated full length pictures. It's safe to say we might not have some of our favorite animated classics without the innovation that went into Snow White, but can her film's characters and plot withstand the look through a modern lens? Can a story that ends with a 14 year-old girl marrying a 31 year-old man, still be relevant or (even considered positive) in 2022? Join us as we try to answer those questions for ourselves, through rewatching and recapping this with adult eyes. Is Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs not only a classic, but timeless as well? We have plenty of thoughts and opinions and hopefully by the end of our Snow White two-parter episode, you will as well. If you're interested in rewatching this classic for yourself, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs is available to stream on Disney+ with a subscription. We'll be back later this week with a special episode drop, but until then you can find us on Instagram: @RejectsPodcast, @MadiAndTheMouse, and @KeithMaultbay. Thanks for listening!
