   Teaching Appraisal

Every appraiser is a teacher. That's the idea at the heart of this episode. Hosts Tonia Vailas, MAI, AI-GRS, and Warren Boizot, SRA, AI-RRS sit down with Rob Moorman, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, one of the Appraisal Institute's most respected instructors. Rob's path started with music and a tape measure he had no idea how to use. That experience shaped a teaching style built on stories, patience, and real-world knowledge. They cover the concepts that trip up new students, the shift to hybrid classrooms, the growing need for new instructors, and why no algorithm will ever replace someone who has actually measured a building. Appraising for Veterans

Can military service prepare you for a successful career in real estate appraisal? Hosts Tonia Vailas, MAI, AI-GRS, and Warren Boizot, SRA, AI-RRS explore why veterans may be uniquely suited for a second career in appraisal—and why the profession should be paying attention. Joined by Anthony Marmorale, SRA, AI-RRS, Chair of the Appraisal Institute’s National Strategic Planning Committee, and Anthony Legotti, MAI, a decorated U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran and owner of a national appraisal firm, the conversation dives into the skills veterans bring to the table: discipline, attention to detail, integrity, and a systematic approach to problem-solving. The episode also highlights the real-world benefits of appraisal as a post-service career, including flexible schedules, remote work opportunities, and the potential for supplemental income. Plus, the group discusses innovative pathways—like the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program—that could help service members transition into appraisal before leaving the military. Whether you’re a veteran exploring your next chapter or an appraiser interested in strengthening the profession’s future, this episode offers insight, inspiration, and actionable ideas. 🎧 Listen now and be part of the conversation.
