[…] It sounds a little bit overreaching, but I think it's true. We're the only component in NATO that actually engages the Russians on a day-to-day basis. We are doing a deterrent dance with them at sea all the time. On land, our troops are on one side of the border and the Russians are on the other side of the border. And if that changes, we've got a real problem. But even for land, even for NATO air power, most of NATO air activity is air policing. The vast majority of air policing happens over allied airspace. Of course, there's a little bit of crossing over the global commons in terms of airspace, but most of it, much of it, is over allied airspace. […]
