It sounds like a simple question, but in a blended family, those two words can carry a lot of emotion. Stepparents may feel that they have earned the title, biological parents may feel threatened by it, and children can become caught between two households and the people they love.
In this episode, I’m sharing my honest perspective as a stepfather—including what my own stepchildren call me and why it has never defined our relationship. We’ll talk about allowing these relationships to develop naturally, keeping children out of adult insecurities, and recognizing what really shows that a meaningful bond has been built.
Because in the end, what they call you may matter far less than whether they know they can call you when they need you.
