You Can't Resist The Devil While You're Still Agreeing With Him

You've been quoting the verse.. "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you." You've said it. You've prayed it. You've tried to apply it. And the devil hasn't fled. Here's why. James 4:7 is one of the most quoted verses in the Bible.

And almost nobody reads what comes before it. Because what comes before it changes everything about how you understand it. James 4:1-3 opens with war. Not spiritual warfare from the outside — war from within. The Greek word for fights is polemos — severe conflict, warfare, battle. And James says that war starts with hedone — pleasure-driven desires, sensual appetites, self-gratification. Whatever gives your flesh pleasure long enough eventually becomes your master. You can't resist the devil while secretly agreeing with the fleshly things that have been destroying your life.

You can't white-knuckle your way through temptation while privately feeding the desire underneath it. The devil doesn't flee from people who are trying harder. He flees from believers who are fully surrendered — not partially interested.

The war James is exposing here isn't external attack. It's internal compromise. And the moment you stop agreeing with what the enemy is offering — the battle changes completely. "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." — James 4:7

🔥 New devotional every week — subscribe and hit the bell.

📖 Bible Study — Tues (Women's) | Wed (Men's) | Sat (Coed) — DM "Bible study" to join

God Didn't Come To Take Your Side. He Came To Take Over.

Most people approach God with one question.."Are you on my side?"It's the same question Joshua asked when he looked up and saw a man standing outside Jericho with a drawn sword. "Are you for us or for our enemies?" And the answer stopped everything. Neither. Not for you. Not against you. The Commander of the Lord's Army didn't show up to join Joshua's battle plan. He showed up to take command of it. Joshua's job wasn't to get God on his side — it was to take off his sandals and submit to the side God was already on.That's what Joshua 5:13-15 reveals. And once you see it you can't unsee it.

The sandals weren't just footwear. In ancient culture sandals carried the dirt of every place you'd walked. Your old life. Your striving. Your agenda. Your plans built without God. And the Commander said — what you're carrying can't come with you into what I'm about to give you. You can't bring your dirt into the holy ground He's already prepared. Most people are still trying to get God to join their plan. Still praying "God be on my side." Still wondering why He isn't showing up the way they expected. But God was never auditioning to be on your team. He's the Commander. You submit to Him or you stay outside the Promised Land.

This is Episode 5 of the series — You've Been Missing This In The Bible The Whole Time."Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." — Joshua 5:14

🔥 New episode every day this week — subscribe and hit the bell.

📖 Bible Study — Tues (Women's) | Wed (Men's) | Sat (Coed) — DM "Bible study" to join

"You Were Set Free But You're Still Thinking Like A Slave

Israel crossed the Red Sea. They were free.. Four hundred years of slavery — over. The chains were gone. The water came down. Pharaoh's army was destroyed. By every measure they had been completely delivered. And three days later they were complaining about going back to Egypt. That's not just an ancient story. That's every man who has been delivered from addiction, lust, toxic relationships, or a broken identity — but whose mind still runs back to it. You crossed the sea but you're still thinking like you're in chains. The old life keeps chasing you because your mind keeps letting it back in. Exodus 14 carries a revelation most people completely miss when they read the Red Sea story. It wasn't just that God parted the water. It was what Jesus did before the sea opened — He moved from in front of the Israelites to behind them. He placed himself between Israel and Egypt. Between His people and what was coming for them. Same nature. Same God. Different moment. At the Red Sea — Jesus stood between Israel and Egypt. At the Cross — Jesus stood between humanity and wrath. The people could not save themselves. In both moments God became the barrier between good and evil, conquering death and destruction, saving the captives. But here's the part that hits hardest — Israel was free. Completely free. And they still thought like slaves. That's why we must die to the old life. Not just cross the sea but bury the mindset that keeps looking back at Egypt. The old life will come chasing after you every time. Don't look back. This is Episode 6 of the series — You've Been Missing This In The Bible The Whole Time. "The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still." — Exodus 14:14

🔥 New episode every day this week — subscribe and hit the bell.

📖 Bible Study — Tues (Women's) | Wed (Men's) | Sat (Coed) — DM "Bible study" to join
