Faith +X was born, really out of the lit conversations between two curious girls with a love for sound theology and banter. We wanted to hear real but also intelligent conversations about faith outside of the pulpit. We don’t believe faith and reasoning are mutually exclusive and we think it's worthwhile deconstructing faith based on the simple premise that - understanding Christianity and its impact on the world better allows us to understand ourselves.
Join us as we sit down with Pastor Kristina Burroughs, the dynamic Executive Pastor of Catalyst Church, which she co-founded with her husband, Jeremy, in Bethesda, Maryland. Since its inception in 2019, Catalyst Church has been making waves in the Washington DC Metro area with its impactful community work and spiritual guidance.
In this exclusive interview, we dive into Pastor Kristina’s profound insights and inspirations that drive her ministry and leadership. With a BA in Marketing from the University of North Florida, a BA in Applied Theology from Logos Christian College, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, Kristina brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.
Hear about her journey as a mother of three and how her diverse background in Baptist and Evangelical Pentecostal traditions has shaped her approach to faith and leadership. Discover the stories behind her book, "The Most Important Yes"—a heartfelt guide for young women seeking to discern God's purpose and navigate their callings. Kristina wrote this book as a beacon for those struggling to find their place in their spiritual and personal lives, addressing the very questions she encounters from women every week.
Don't miss this inspiring conversation that promises to shed light on the challenges and triumphs of faith, purpose, and leadership. Tune in now for an episode filled with wisdom, encouragement, and a lot of heart!

Faith + The Digital Church Part 1
This episode is of relevance to us all because for the best part of the last 18 months, we’ve had to adapt the ways in which we worship and most of us attended church or prayer calls on some sort of digital platform. This episode will explore from a personal and an academic framework the impact the digital space really had on our spiritual journey.
To help us think through some of these concepts, we have a special guest with us, Giuseppina Addo, a researcher at Malmo University in the field of Media and Communication Studies: Culture, Collaborative Media, and Creative Industries. She is a recent recipient of an Emerging Scholar Award from the Inclusive Museum for her innovative paper on “join the Holy Spirit on Zoom: African Pentecostal churches and their liturgical practices during Covid-19." She is also a fellow podcaster on a show called Pizza and Palmwine (https://anchor.fm/josey-addo), so view this as collaboration and check it out!

Faith + Spirituality
Manifestation, law of attraction, the Universe, cosmic energy - it's impossible to scroll through socials without bumping into one or more of these phrases. But what do they actually mean and what relevance if any, do they have for the modern day Christian? Are these simply New Age concepts which Christians must run away from or are they alternative forms of reaching the divine? In this episode, we explore our struggles and thoughts on the great battle between spirituality (in contemporary understanding) and religion. If we all believe we have spirit and we need to tend to it, what is the great tension here Faith & Spirituality? Join us as we delve into this ever relevant topic.

Faith + Friendship
In our last episode we discussed the intersection of Faith + Online dating, however we recognize that relationships are not only limited to romantic ones so it’s important that as Christians we learn to navigate our rapport with other-image bearers in platonic relationships - even those we don’t believe were built in the same image (that’s a joke haha). Ultimately even God modeled community to us from the very beginning when He said that “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness" (Genesis 1:26). Thus, a lot of the way we reflect our God-like nature is in relation to one another. In this episode we explore what the meanings of friendship are and ask the question: if relationships are part of God’s design for the human experience why are they so hard? We do this by exploring our own personal experiences, by touching on both highs and lows. We hope that by listening to this, you can realize that you are not alone in your questions and that there are difficult truths to accept, but also hope to be found.

Faith + Online Dating
We promised y'all we'd leave no stone unturned this season and we intend on doing just that. On this episode, we are joined by the wonderful Shannon and Tumbi who somehow successfully navigated the murky waters of online dating and found incredible lifelong partners on the apps! We of course had to do the Lord's work and bring them on to share their unfiltered top tips on how they achieved this feat. This episode explores everything from the (misplaced?) mistrust of finding someone online in the Christian community to how to gauge what "flavour" of Christianity your match might subscribe to, in the quest to determine spiritual compatibility. This one is a long one because the gist was toooo sweet with equal doses of wisdom and laughter - we hope you enjoy! (Also, this episode makes a mention of Pastor Dharius Wise, but meant Dharius Daniels)

Faith + Music
Music has been an important part of Christianity and the human experience at large, since the dawn of time, yet its integration in the Church hasn't always been seamless. In this episode, we explore some different worldviews on the role of music in the Church including: should worship services include drums? (Quick answer - yes) Should we be singing about God's love being "reckless" like Bethel Music encourage us to? How should Christian artists balance Biblical soundness with creative freedom? Join us as we delve into some of the controversies surrounding our favourite bops.
