Nascido na Lapa, em 1862, Victor Ferreira do Amaral e Silva era filho de fazendeiros que aos 12 anos foi morar sozinho no Rio de Janeiro. Lá, formou-se médico antes de retornar ao Paraná onde exerceu a profissião. Na capital do estado, Victor Ferreira do Amaral também atuou como político e jornalista, antes de fundar a Universidade do Paraná, que algumas décadas depois se tornaria e UFPR e teria ele como seu primeiro reitor.
