From Guilt to Grace | De La Culpa a la Gracia (Psalm 51)

As part two of our new series, Summer Psalms, José Pablo Daza led us through Psalm 51 in a message titled “From Guilt to Grace.” Written by King David after his sin with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah, this psalm provides one of Scripture’s clearest pictures of genuine repentance and the transforming mercy of God.

The message confronts us with the reality that even David—a man after God’s own heart—fell into grievous sin. Yet Psalm 51 is not ultimately a story about David’s failure; it is a story about God’s grace toward repentant sinners.

Through David’s prayer, we see four essential characteristics of true biblical repentance. First, repentance begins with a plea for mercy, grounded not in our goodness but in God’s steadfast love. Second, it involves honest confession, taking full responsibility for our sin without excuses or self-justification. Third, it expresses a longing for cleansing and restoration, recognizing that sin affects not only our actions but also our hearts. Finally, true repentance results in a transformed life marked by worship, obedience, and a renewed desire to glorify God.

Rather than hiding his guilt, David brings it before the Lord and casts himself upon God’s mercy. In doing so, he points us beyond himself to Christ, who fulfills everything David longed for. Jesus is the perfect sacrifice for sin, the One who cleanses completely, restores the broken, and renews the joy of salvation.

Psalm 51 reminds us that repentance is not merely feeling sorrow over sin—it is turning from ourselves and running to Christ. The journey from guilt to grace is found not in self-improvement, but in the mercy of God revealed through the Savior who forgives, restores, and transforms His people.

The God Who Keeps / El Dios que Guarda (Psalm 121)

In Part 1 of our Summer Psalms series, Pastor Javier led us through Psalm 121 and explored a question every believer faces: Where does our help come from?

As pilgrims journeying through life, we all encounter mountains along the way—health challenges, family struggles, financial pressures, and the daily call to follow Christ in a fallen world. Through Psalm 121, we were reminded that our confidence is not found in our own strength, preparation, or circumstances. Our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

This psalm gives believers three powerful assurances: God is our Helper, God is with us, and God will keep us. The God who created the mountains we face is the same God who walks with us through them. He never slumbers, never sleeps, and never stops watching over His people.

No matter what journey lies before us, Psalm 121 reminds us that we can move forward with confidence, knowing that the Lord is faithfully keeping us every step of the way.
