Welcome to the Family's Following Jesus Podcast!
Life is busy, and we get it. That’s why we’ve created bite-sized episodes to help you and your family grow in faith—whether you're on the way to school, work, church, or even cricket practice!
Season 1, Fan the Flame, dives into the book of Acts, aligning with the Queensland Baptists devotional. Each episode unpacks one of seven powerful practices from the early church, equipping you to walk alongside your kids and follow Jesus together. Expect inspiring testimonies, faith stories, and practical resources to bring these lessons into your home.
In Episode 7, we’re focusing on Practice #7: Sabbath.
What is Sabbath — and how can we practice Sabbath as a family, not just at church but in our week?
This week, we’re discovering why Sabbath is an important practice for us each week— it’s about making the effort to rest in our world. It’s a wonderful thing to practice by slowing down so we can enjoy each other and what God has given us. From going to church to sharing hot chips for lunch to playing games or watching the weekend footy, we’ll hear how families today find fun ways to rest and practice Sabbath.
We’ll talk about:
How God even rested when creating the world
What Jesus taught his disciples about rest
Different ways kids and parents rest and practice Sabbath
Fun and practical ideas for Sabbath as a family
Let’s learn how practising Sabbath can become part of your family’s rhythm — something that strengthens your faith and reminds you of who God is each week.

5. Practice #5: Generosity
Welcome to this week’s episode of Families Following Jesus.
In Season 1, as part of Queensland Baptists’ Fan the Flame series, we’re exploring the practices of the early church as we journey through the book of Acts together.
In episode 5, we're looking at Practice #5: Generosity.
What does it mean to live with open hands and hearts — ready to give because God gave first?
In this episode, we’re diving into what it means to live generously, just like the early church. They didn’t hold tightly to their possessions — they shared what they had so no one missed out. Even those with very little gave what they could. Why? Because they knew God had already given them everything in Jesus.
We’ll talk about:
How generosity goes beyond money — it’s also our time, talents, and kindness
A powerful story Jesus told about a widow who gave all she had
Real-life examples from kids about giving and receiving generosity
How your family can practise open-handed living this week
Let’s discover how living generously reflects God’s heart and shows others who He is!

In Season 1, as part of Queensland Baptists’ Fan the Flame series, we’re exploring the practices of the early church as we walk through the book of Acts together.
In episode 4, we’re focusing on Practice #4: Scripture.
How can reading the Bible help us know God better — and build a strong foundation for life?
This week, we’re diving into God’s Word and discovering how it’s more than just a big book full of stories — it’s one big story that points us to Jesus! The early church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and we can do the same today by reading Scripture together as families.
We’ll talk about:
Why the Bible is described as a sweet gift — even sweeter than honey!
A story Jesus told about two builders and why God's Word is the best foundation
Our favourite Bible stories (yes, Daniel and the lions make an appearance!)
Fun and practical ways your family can start reading the Bible together
Let’s explore how Scripture helps us stand strong in life’s storms and stay close to God every day.

3. Practice #3: Prayer
In episode 3, we're focusing on Practice #3: Prayer.
What does it mean to talk to God anytime, anywhere — and actually hear Him speak?
In this episode, we’re diving into the practice of prayer — not just as a religious ritual, but as a real, ongoing conversation with God. The early church devoted themselves to prayer, and we’re invited to do the same. Whether it’s out loud, in your thoughts, with others, or all by yourself — God is always listening.
We’ll talk about:
What Jesus taught about prayer (spoiler: no fancy words required!)
How we can pray honestly and boldly, just like Jesus and the early believers
Real-life examples of kids praying — and seeing God answer in different ways
Practical ways your family can build a prayer rhythm into your everyday life
Let’s discover how prayer connects us deeply with God and invites His presence into everything we do!

What does it really mean to be a witness for Jesus — and to serve each other?
In this episode, we’re exploring what it means to show and tell the love of Jesus — just like the early church did! The first believers didn’t keep their faith to themselves. They lived it out loud — serving others, sharing what they had, and telling everyone about Jesus.
