Agriculture Investing vs Farmland Investing - Harvest Returns
In this episode, we are joined by Chris Rawley, the CEO and founder of Harvest Returns to discuss the difference between agriculture investing and farmland investing.
While serving as a career naval officer, Chris Rawley visited dozens of war-torn and poverty stricken countries and began to appreciate the importance of agriculture to every single person on earth. As a professional investor with this new found appreciation, he decided to invest in a farm, but quickly discovered that these types of assets were inaccessible to the average person. The problem drove him to create Harvest Returns in 2016 to democratize investments in agriculture.
Harvest Returns is the internet’s one-stop shop platform to connect farmers in need of capital and investors looking to diversify and grow their portfolio.
The Harvest Returns platform brings together high net worth individuals (accredited investors) with experienced agriculture producers to raise capital for agricultural farmland, ranchland, and timberland via the crowdfunding process. Simply put, crowdfunding allows a business venture to raise capital rapidly by collecting monetary contributions from a large number of investors. The JOBS Act of 2012 eased securities regulations to legalize equity crowdfunding and allows us to list these deals to qualified investors.

Farmland Investing For Beginners - AcreTrader
In this episode, we are joined by Carter Malloy, the CEO and founder of AcreTrader to discuss how beginners can start investing in farmland with limited assets.
Carter grew up in a farming family and has a lifelong passion for investing and agriculture. Prior to AcreTrader, he was part of an equity investment firm for 5 years. Before joining in 2013, Carter was a Managing Director with Stephens Inc., a large private investment bank, where he was an equity research analyst focused on the Internet, Data & Analytics and Real Estate Processing sectors. Prior to Stephens, he owned small businesses focused on internet marketing and sustainable fuel technologies. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in Physics and has previously held Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 licenses with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
AcreTrader is a real estate investing platform that makes it easy to buy shares of farmland and earn passive income, starting in just minutes online.
United States farmland has historically outperformed most asset classes and other forms of real estate. Unfortunately, buying and maintaining farmland directly is extremely difficult without local knowledge, management, and large investment commitments. AcreTrader solves these issues by providing transparency, flexibility, and ease of use to people wanting to invest in farmland while handling all aspects of administration and property management, from insurance and accounting to working with local farmers and improving soil sustainability. AcreTrader carefully reviews each farm, selecting less than 1% of the total parcels considered, then places each farm offering in a unique legal entity and offers shares to investors through their online platform.
