Contempt for God part 2
God’s Major Issues with Israel:
1) Their contempt for God’s altar. – 1:6-14
2) Their contempt for God’s glory. – 2:1-3
3) Their contempt for God’s law. – 2:4-9
Main Problem: The priests. It is their responsibility to guard the sanctuary from defilement and to inspect all sacrifices (Mal. 1:8; Lev. 22:17-25; Deut. 15:21, 17:1).

Contempt for God
Breakdown:
God says, “you despised me and defile my temple.”
Israel says, “how are we despising you?”
God responds by focusing on the people and the priests too. God responds, “you are bringing shamefully lame offerings of these sick blemished animals (with the mindset of “it’s good enough).” Showing that they do not value or honor their God. The priests tolerate and participate in these corrupt forms of worship.
Bottom line: From top to bottom, God’s people have proven faithless.
