Chefs and their Community: How Commissary Kitchens Can Help Foster Community Food Systems
Feeding people is a big job, and doing so with the health of the earth and those we feed is difficult given the cost of producing food. But there may be a solution in commissary kitchens. Join me as I sit down with Deb Belding of Poughkeepsie Open Kitchen to speak about the potential for commissary kitchens to foster local food systems.

Feast & Forum: What is it?
Hello, and welcome to the Feast and Forum podcast. I’m Camden, and I’ll be hosting this. But what exactly is this? Well, the idea behind this podcast is to provide a platform for conversations about our food system.
And I know how tiring it may be to hear about “another new podcast”, but I really think that having some kind of journalistic body for issues of our food system is important. Especially at the school where the future leaders of the industry are learning about food.
And as students at the CIA, I think we can agree that there are some real systemic flaws in our food system…aaand there can be a lot of angst surrounding that. So, in an attempt to ease our anxieties, we’re gonna be speaking with professors, chefs, experts in the field, and most importantly: you guys….students. Every once in a while, you’ll see me in the egg with my microphone and a question, or series of questions, about your thoughts on an issue in our food system. These conversations are really what’s going to drive this podcast.
So, I look forward to having these conversations, and I hope you do too. Look-out for Episode 1—Farming in America: The Present and the Future coming Friday, July 2nd.
See you then
