Podcast Overview

The modern world is not as sane as it thinks it is. One of the most powerful men on the planet called empathy "civilizational suicide" while he exploits human and natural resources to their violent depletion. In a world of sociopathic governments and conglomerates, we crave what makes us human more than ever.

To help illustrate, a binary: masculine and feminine. Not gender-dependent but rather spiritual polarities contained in all genders; ancient archetypes inherited from our collective unconscious. Moon and sun, nature and the artificial, Dionysian and Apollonian, yin and yang; two sides of the same coin. Both needed for the multitudes to be found; both needed for us to be whole.

But the masculine has dominated the western, Imperialist way of life to the point of its worst qualities suffocating us; righteous individualism, scarcity, greed, rage, cruelty, profiteering, violence, authoritarianism.

It’s other side? Community, creativity, compassion, patience, abundance, faith, love, intimacy, collaboration -- things we're convinced are weak, silly, or sinful so the masculine shadow can maintain its dominance. Can we revive the feminine while also repairing what's been damaged in its longstanding cultural repression? We'll accelerate our collapse if we don’t try.

Grief in the Age of the Masculine

Masculine-dominant cultures are terrible at grieving, whether it's actual loss of life or the decaying of institutions, ideas, hopes, futures -- and that's by design. We have hardly any skill or stomach for the thing we’re all inevitably careening toward, and perhaps that's one of the biggest reasons we're bubbling over with anxiety, depression, avoidance, and cruelty as a group. But it doesn't have to be that way. Whether personal loss or collective, if grief is love with nowhere to go, maybe we can give it some direction.
