Podcast Overview

In this honest and revealing podcast, Natalie Lee speaks to guests to dig deep into their own relationships with sex to expose the shame that many of us feel.  This summer Natalie releases her debut book Feeling Myself which takes us through her journey, from traumatic beginnings to marriage, motherhood and eventually experiencing sexual freedom after divorce as she turned 40. Feeling Yourself is a continuation of this conversation and the story of learning to be your true self in a society that doesn't prioritise your pleasure. It is a podcast for every woman to feel empowered by and to learn the tools to experience their own emancipation too. "Trauma, porn, masturbation, sexuality, sex after motherhood, sex when you feel sh*t about your body, sex after separation... these are all topics around which we skirt delicately, as if they're bombs which will explode if we prod them too curiously. In this way, sex is intimately connected with shame. Like most of us, shame has followed me around for most of my life. I felt shame for the colour of my skin, shame for being female, and shame for wanting more, but I also felt shame around the subject of masturbation. Even as an adult, I carried an intense feeling that masturbation was somehow dirty. I look back on this now and realise how warped our approach to sex is and how the shame that surrounds these conversations holds women back."

Ashley James Sex and Motherhood

Trigger warning: This episode contains mentions of birth trauma I am joined this week by the lovely DJ, presenter and Dating and Empowerment coach, Ashely James. We discuss some of the pre-conceptions that people hold about motherhood, particularly around sex. After suffering a particularly challenging and traumatic experience at the birth of her son Alfie, Ashley shares how she felt lost within motherhood, and her journey to building herself and her confidence back. Ashley is so honest in this chat and I’m so grateful to her for sharing her own experiences. Follow Nat Follow Ashley Buy ‘Feeling Yourself’ the book  Learn more about your ad choices. Erika Lust on Porn

This week I am joined by erotic film maker and producer and Erika Lust. I’ve been such a big fan of Erika’s work that champions female pleasure through her story lines and creative direction.  Erika founded Erika Lust Films after she grew frustrated at the lack of erotic films that she felt were made for her pleasure. We chat about, everything from why the porn industry has such a bad reputation to the need for better sex education for children, and why she is unable to share her content on Instagram anymore.  This chat opened my eyes to the ways that porn can be both pleasurable and empowering to women. Goldie on Trauma

Trigger warning: This episode contains mentions of sexual assault. Joining me this week is none other than music producer, artist and pioneer of drum and bass Mr Goldie. Having grown up in care, and suffered sexual trauma from a young age, Goldie shares his journey to healing, from getting better in touch with his ‘inner child’, to using techniques such as yoga and meditation, which has been massively helped along by two of his biggest supports, his wife and youngest child. This is such a raw and honest chat and I hope it sheds some light on the often challenging path to healing after sexual trauma.
