Fellini. Note a margine is the podcast of the Fellini Museum in Rimini, produced by Fattor Comune as part of the REEL project of the European Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 programme.
Eighteen episodes to approach Fellini's cinema from a slightly oblique angle, following familiar routes and unexpected detours. Eighteen sightings which, like explorations, bring to the surface recurring themes, figures, obsessions and motifs.
Not a guide, but a constellation of notes: invitations for Fellini's films not to remain frozen in memory, but to continue to be seen and to have an effect.
Dante, Leopardi and Kafka appear in Fellini's cinema as inner voices rather than quotations.
From hellish journeys to contemplation of the infinite, to Kafkaesque labyrinths, literature becomes vision.

16. Sounds
In Fellini's cinema, sound often precedes the image and guides its meaning.
His collaboration with Nino Rota creates a universe of memorable melodies, noises and asynchronous voices.
Between music, dubbing and inhabited silences, the audio becomes a narrative.

Wind, water and fog in Fellini's cinema are not mere background elements but emotional forces.
Natural elements shift the meaning of scenes, opening passages between reality, memory and dreams.
The climate becomes a presence that guides the gaze.

14. Farewells
In Fellini's cinema, death lies on the border between life and elsewhere.
Funerals become grotesque processions and symbolic journeys, while the end opens up as a passage and communication.
The final farewell remains suspended between irony, poetry and unease.

13. Stutters
In Fellini’s cinema eroticism is clumsy, childish and deeply imaginative.
Desire arises as a comic impulse, mixed with guilt and often ending in frustration.
Between laughter and embarrassment, the staging of the body becomes an eternal apprenticeship of desire.

12. Marionettes
For Fellini, actors are figures guided like marionettes.
Marcello Mastroianni becomes his elastic alter ego, an ironic and melancholic mirror that crosses different films and identities.
Around him, a gallery of masks embodies Fellini's dream.

11. Compasses
Giulietta Masina is the emotional compass of Fellini's cinema, the key that regulates its tone and sensitivity.
Through characters such as Gelsomina and Cabiria, she embodies a fragile strength, capable of withstanding pain without losing her sense of wonder.

10. Attire
In Fellini's cinema, fashion is not decoration but language.
Clothes reveal characters even before words do: from the director's sketches to the iconic costumes of his collaborators, clothing becomes a line written in fabric.

9. Physiognomies
For Fellini, faces are the real special effect of cinema.
Casting becomes a creative act in which faces define characters, rhythm and meaning of scenes.
Every physiognomy is already a story.

8. Ciak
For Fellini, Cinecittà is a mental city and a liturgy of imagination.
In studios, reality is provoked, dismantled and reconstructed.
Here, technique becomes style and artifice becomes cinematic truth.

7. Returns
Rimini is the key to Fellini's imagination and the place of eternal return.
Childhood, dialect, cinema and desire merge into a memory that does not reconstruct a town, but reinvents it.
Childhood thus becomes a way of looking at the world, not a lost time.

4. Contrasts
Accumulation and contrast are central devices in Fellini's style.
