<p>Ungur að árum var Guðmundur farin að stunda fjallamennsku með bróður sínum. Þeir létu fátt stöðva sig og fengu m.a. Bronco - jeppa föður þeirra að láni til að komast á afvikna staði. Fáir voru á þeim tíma á fjöllum þegar þeir bræður munduðu Pentax myndavélarnar og tóku slides myndir. Síðan segir Guðmundur af spennandi dvöl sinni á eyjunni Bahrain í Persafóanum. Þar er margt frábrugðið því sem við eigum að venjast.</p>

Fyrir skemmstu fór Gunnlaugur til Uzbekistan og Karakalpakstan sem líklega faír hér á landi hafa stigið fæti sínum á. Silkivegurinn lág um þessi landsvæði sem skóp mikinn auð og menningu. Gunnlaugur segir frá áhugaverðum fornum menningarborgum eins og Samarkand, Bukhara sem státa af sögu sem er fáheyrð.</p>
