Episode 85: "Gunfighter Paridise" Jethro Waters on Risk, Satire, and Southern Culture
In this interview, filmmaker Jethro Waters discusses his journey from independent filmmaking to theatrical release, exploring the creative process, the importance of risk-taking, and the realities of distribution for indie films. Waters explains that the idea for “Gunfighter Paradise” stems from his Southern upbringing and the contrasting ideologies he encountered. “I grew up in a very Southern conservative Christian upbringing, and as my blinders started to open, I began to examine what was going on in the world and American history,” he says. The film serves as a satire addressing how fear often shapes individuals’ beliefs within conservative Christianity in the U.S. Take a listen to our conversation and be sure to follow, like, and subscribe to Jethrow’s links below, and as always, be sure to #keepwatchingfilms and #supportindiefilmmakers
