Hvad stod han for? Og hvad ved vi egentlig om manden, når det kommer til stykke? Oraklet i Delphi proklamerede, at Sokrates er verdens mest vise mand. Men foruden en enorm visdom, så giver Sokrates os redskaberne til samtalens kunst, som vi udfolder med kritisk stillingtagen, åbenhed, principfasthed, ironi og meget andet. Afsnit 1 – Førsokratikerne
<p>Vi begynder med begyndelsen. Men hvad er den egentlig, helt præcist? Det var de første græske filosoffer selv meget i tvivl om. De var nemlig arkæologer i den forstand, at de ledte efter selve verdens begyndelse (gr.: arché). Allerede siden antikken har man været enige om, at det var fønikiske Thales fra Milet i Lilleasien, altså vores dage Tyrkiet, der var den første græske filosof. Han sagde, at begyndelsen var vand. Den er i hvert fald flydende.</p> <p>I løbet af afsnittet kommer vi omkring Thales og Anaximander fra Milet, Heraklit fra Efesos og Parmenides fra Elea, der – alle forskelle til trods – er blandt dem, vi kalder de førsokratiske filosoffer.</p>
