PH7P117 Finding Balance with Corey Gray / GLYF - From Singer/Songwriter to EDM Producing

Episode 117 featuring a Austin, TX based Singer/Songwriter and producer, Corey Gray / GLYF. Summary: Corey Gray talks about his journey from singer-songwriter to EDM artist, starting in Dallas, moving to Los Angeles, and building a career through covers, original music, and collaboration. He explains why he created the Glyph project: to have more creative control, make music that moves people physically and emotionally, and separate his EDM work from his Corey Gray identity so each brand can live in its own lane. A big theme throughout is adaptability — in artistry, collaboration, business, and staying relevant as the music industry changes. Why it works: it centers on transformation and purpose, which makes the story feel relatable and memorable. 10 takeaways: Corey’s career started in bands, drums, and songwriting before shifting into singing. Moving to LA opened the door to label deals and the YouTube cover era. Covers created real revenue opportunities through licensing, playlists, and sync-style use. The EDM world gave him more creative control than singer-songwriter production. His motivation for EDM is the feeling it creates — especially dance, release, and connection. Collaboration is a major part of his process, but only when everyone feels safe to contribute. Adaptability has been one of the most important traits in sustaining a long music career. Austin’s growing scene feels exciting and buzzy to him, similar to LA in an earlier era. Corey Gray and Glyph serve different listener moods and protect each other’s brand identity. Glyph is meant to make people move and feel uplifted, while Corey Gray keeps the more intimate, vocal-driven songwriting lane. Thanks for listening! Cheers, Donovan
