Through community-engaged praxis, Arshi has built Queer South Asians and other community ventures, such as Kotha_to—a conversation circle for queer Bangladeshi folks to overcome the barriers and divisions of culture and queer identity through the lens of an immigrant. Arshi shares early childhood tales, explores family relations and challenges, and explores the silver lining of hope and faith, fueled by love for one's family against all odds. A leader in Toronto and the broader Canadian landscape for queer and/or trans people of South Asian background and/or otherwise, Arshi utilizes community events in the form of conversation circles and fundraisers, as well as a recent venture into culinary arts, vis-à-vis 'Arshi's Dokan'—or Arshi's shop. <p>Welcome to Finding Order in Disorder! This episode we&#39;re joined by Matthew Jackman (they/them), a Mad studies scholar, mental health activist and PhD candidate at the University of Sydney. Matthew is the founder of The Australian Centre for Lived Experience (TACFLE) and Mad Collective, and serves on a number of international mental health and lived experience initiatives, including the Lancet Commission on Lived Experience in Mental Health Research and Western Pacific Advisor to the Global Mental Health Action Network. </p><p>Their work explores the history, politics, and future of international Mad movements, drawing on both academic scholarship and lived experience. Matthew is passionate about human rights, social justice, and reimagining mental health beyond traditional psychiatric frameworks. </p><p>They are currently an international visiting scholar in the Mad Studies Hub at York University.--Emerging Themes: Queer Identify, Mad Studies, Manic Depressive Lived Experience(s) , Family relations , Mental Health Activisim with WHO &amp; United Nations and Global Mental Health Action Network--</p>
