We live in a culture designed to keep us dissatisfied with who we are, what we have, and how we look. In this sermon from our series The Necessity of Intolerance, Dr. Jerry Shields opens Deuteronomy 5:21 to unpack the final of the Ten Commandments: "You shall not covet."
While many commandments forbid specific outward actions, this final command cuts straight to the heart and mind. Coveting exposes our internal desires, our struggles with materialism, and our temptation to set the temporal above the eternal. Listen in as Dr. Shields demonstrates how cultivating genuine, gospel-centered contentment frees us from the trap of constant discontentment and restores our devotion to God.

The Intolerance of Lying
In a world where truth is often treated as relative and honesty seems hard to find, why is Gods command against lying so uncompromising?
In this sermon, the ninth in our series The Necessity of Intolerance, Dr. Jerry Shields examines Deuteronomy 5:20 ("You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor"). Looking at both the Ten Commandments and the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, Dr. Shields explores how dishonesty breaks down trust in our communities, destroys personal relationships, and why God calls His people to a higher, uncompromising standard of truthfulness.

The Intolerance of Stealing
In a culture that tells us to "live our truth" and pursue self-fulfillment above all else, Gods commandments provide an unchanging foundation for how we ought to live. In this message, Dr. Jerry Shields continues our series through the Ten Commandments with a look at the eighth commandment: "You shall not steal."
While secular society relies on property laws to maintain order, scripture addresses the heart behind theft. Gods prohibition of stealing goes far beyond break-ins and property crimeit extends to how we handle honest work, accurate business dealings, employee time, and our treatment of others. Through God's grace, we are called out of self-centered accumulation and into a transformed life marked by integrity, contentment, and active generosity.
