Formation, Not Just Information: Raising a Flourishing Family | 16/8/26

What does it look like to raise a flourishing family in a world with no absolutes? In this message from Ephesians 6:1-4, Pastor Mark unpacks Paul's household code for children and fathers — exploring the weight of the words "obey" and "honor," and why Paul addressing children directly was radical in a Roman world where kids, especially daughters, were often discarded. Drawing on the Greek concept of paideia (formation, not just information), Mark challenges parents to lead not just by instruction but by example — admitting failure, saying sorry, and setting family rhythms of rest, play, prayer, and church. With stories of foster families, a special-needs mum finally made welcome, and the early church known as "the people of the Dung Heap" for rescuing abandoned children, this episode casts a vision bigger than parenting tips: healthy, God-loving homes as the church's evangelistic strategy for the next generation. A moving, practical message on discipline, discipleship, and community for parents, kids, and anyone who cares about family, faith, and legacy. flbc.org.au

   Challenging Preconceptions About Ephesians 5 | 9/8/26

Ephesians Chapter 5 contains probably the most controversial passage in the whole letter — one that's been manipulated, abused, and caused real pain for many people. In this significant sermon, Pastor Mark walks through six surprises in Ephesians 5:21–33, working through what the word "submit" doesn't mean before landing on what it does mean, drawing on Greek word study, a striking 1990s Queensland court case on marital consent, and Jesus's own pattern of dignifying women — from the Samaritan woman at the well to Mary sitting at his feet to Mary Magdalene's role as "apostle to the apostles." He unpacks headship not as authority or being "the big dog," but as taking responsibility for the flourishing of others, using the image of two planks of wood leaning on one another for shelter. Whether you're married, single, or somewhere in between, this episode offers a fresh, evangelistic vision for what it means to lift one another up. flbc.org.au

Children of Light in a Dark World | 2/8/26

Continuing the sermon series through Ephesians, Pastor Seb unpacks Ephesians 5:1-20 and asks a simple but searching question: what does the way you walk say about who you are? Drawing on Paul's call to be "imitators of God as beloved children," this message pushes back against a false gospel of works-righteousness, reminding us that our identity as God's dearly loved children always comes before what we do. From there, Seb traces three distinct "walks" of the Christian life: walking in love, walking as children of light, and walking in wisdom. Honest, personal, and grounded in Scripture, this episode is an invitation to examine your own walk — and to live as light in whatever dark places you find yourself this week. Perfect for anyone wrestling with identity, purpose, or what it looks like to live out their faith in everyday moments. flbc.org.au
