The Crystal Bridges Expansion and Alice Walton’s Healthcare Vision
Flintco has been building Arkansas since 1951, and we took Flintco Talks on the road to Bentonville to celebrate 75 years of construction. We sat down with Scott Eccleston, President of Campus Planning and Facility Management for Art and Wellness Enterprises, Alice Walton's Bentonville-based cultural and wellness organization, and Flintco Construction Director Jesse Evans and Vice President Patrick Horrath, both based in Northwest Arkansas. You'll hear Scott's behind-the-scenes stories of a four-hour job interview with Alice Walton, crews working through the night to beat a museum opening, and an architect visibly moved by what the team built. The conversation covers a lot of ground. Scott shares how a walk through the woods with his three boys on what would become the site of Crystal Bridges and a late-night phone call from world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie set the course for the second half of his career. Jesse and Patrick relive some of the challenges they overcame delivering Phase II of Crystal Bridges on a site straddling a floodway, with controlled blasting within 80 feet of priceless artwork and a meticulous architect watching every pour of exposed concrete. They also talk about what's next. Art and Wellness Enterprises is developing a healthcare campus in Bentonville with a vision that has grown well beyond its original scope, and Flintco is building it. Scott makes the case for why a project of this magnitude and complexity requires a construction manager that delivers like a partner. If you attended the recent grand reopening of Crystal Bridges or are curious about the people and partnerships behind Bentonville’s most ambitious projects, this episode of Flintco Talks is for you.
