#124: Shannon Rearden

In this episode, we sit down with Shannon, an ultrarunner whose journey started on the trails of Alabama and has quickly evolved into tackling some of the toughest trail races in the Southeast. From early races like the Darter Dash and Wade Mountain Half to taking on the Cruel Jewel 50 Miler and the 8-Hours of Berm. Shannon has built an impressive resume in just a few years.

After jumping into the Florida trail scene - she's been racking up miles at events like Moon Over Croom, the Pinellas Trail Challenge, the Wild Boar Night Run, and multiple ultras - she even claimed first female at a treadmill-based Indoor Ultra in 2026. Now, she’s setting her sights on her biggest goal yet: her first 100-mile attempt at the World’s Fair Ultra in Knoxville.

Outside of running, Shannon is a University of Alabama graduate and works as a Quality Engineer in Honeywell’s Space division, balancing a demanding career with a lot of trail miles!

#123: Jeff Iosa and the Big Scrub 150

On the chat is Jeff Iosa, Mr. Pacer Travel himself, as he takes us through his incredible journey at the Big Scrub 150. To add to the fun of the adventure, Jeff chose to take on this challenge on his birthday. From the highs to the inevitable lows, Jeff shares what it took to push through 150 miles of remote Central Florida and what kept him moving forward every step of the way.

Joining the conversation is John Baughman, who played acrucial role behind the scenes as part of Jeff’s crew. John offers insight into the strategy, support, and real-time problem-solving that go into helping Jeff succeed in such a challenging event. Joe Miller, the Race Director for the Big Scrub 150, also joins us to give his perspective on how it all went down.

Together, they dive into the experience from every angle – the runner, the crew, and the race director, giving a full behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to take on the Big Scrub 150.

Unlike a traditional race where everyone lines up at the same start line on the same day, the Big Scrub 150 is something completely different. Runners have the entire calendar year to complete the 150-mile route through the rugged and sandy terrain of the Big Scrub area of Central Florida.

It’s an “on your own” adventure that requires planning, grit, and a strong support system. But what truly makes this event special is the community behind it. Before you can even attempt the Big Scrub 150 yourself, you have to give back — by crewing, pacing, or helping another runner during their attempt. That requirement creates a tight-knit network of runners supporting runners, and it’s become one of the defining characteristics of the event.

Huge congratulations again to Jeff Iosa for finishing the Big Scrub 150 — a true test of endurance and determination. Also make sure to check out his Youtube page, Pacer Travel!
