What Every Busy Christian Needs to Hear About a Quiet Heart
Welcome to the Focal Point Podcast: Real Talk. Real Faith. from Focal Point Church in Orlando, Florida. Your schedule might finally slow down, but when was the last time your heart was actually quiet? In this episode of the Focal Point Podcast, Tony and Brianna continue the Healthy Heart series with a conversation on the art of quieting your heart: why we stay busy so we don't have to deal with what's going on inside, what biblical stillness really is (and what it isn't), and how to turn down the noise so you can hear God more clearly. Whether you're a busy parent, a worn-out ministry volunteer, or someone whose mind won't stop playing the "what if" game, this conversation touches on busyness, constant digital noise, Christian meditation, Sabbath rest, spiritual battles, taking every thought captive, and why you were never meant to fight for peace alone. One of the biggest takeaways? Getting quiet is a discipline, and it is a choice. When you notice a thought running away with you, you don't have to stay on that train. You can take it captive, lay it at the feet of Jesus, and actively teach your soul to be still, the way David did in the Psalms. If you've ever sat down to pray only to have your to-do list get louder, this conversation is for you. ABOUT OUR HOSTS Brianna Aleman is a wife, mom of three energetic boys, and a passionate student of God's Word. She loves helping people understand the Bible in practical and meaningful ways, believing that the deeper we dig into Scripture, the richer it becomes. When she's not studying or serving in ministry, you'll find her enjoying the outdoors, working in her garden, hiking, or making memories with her family. Tony Velasquez, originally born in Colorado, shaped by time in the Midwest, and raised in Florida, serves as a YTH Pastor who loves connecting with people, learning something new, and talking about life, faith, and great movies, especially sci-fi, psychological thrillers, and superhero films. He is blessed with an amazing wife and son and enjoys relaxing by the pool whenever possible. 💬 Leave a Comment Below Where does your heart actually get quiet before God? Stop Looking With Your Eyes | The Secret to a Healthy Heart
What are you listening to, and what is it quietly doing to your heart? In this episode of the Focal Point Podcast, Tony and Brianna kick off a brand-new series, Healthy Heart, as they unpack what the Bible actually means by "heart," why the voices we listen to shape what we believe and how we live, and how three Bible stories (Adam and Eve in the garden, Israel and the golden calf at Mount Sinai, and David the shepherd boy) show us the way back to a heart after God's own. Whether you're a longtime follower of Jesus, a ministry leader, or someone who feels like God has gone quiet, this conversation touches on guarding your heart (Proverbs 4:23), the "God-shaped hole," heart change versus behavior change, mixing culture with faith, waiting on God, and what pressure reveals in us. One of the biggest takeaways? The behavior was visible, but the heart changed first. Every choice starts with a voice: what we hear shapes a thought, the thought becomes a desire, the desire becomes a decision, and the decision becomes behavior. Real change doesn't come from managing behavior. It comes from spending time with God until His voice shapes our hearts. If you've ever felt like God has gone quiet, or wondered why you keep doing the things you don't want to do, this conversation is for you. What Every Christian Needs to Hear About Approaching a Holy God
How do you draw near to a God so big He holds the oceans in the palm of His hand? In this episode of the Focal Point Podcast, Tony and Brianna pick back up on the Awe of God series as they reflect on God's holiness, what they've learned about the difference between being comfortable with God and being casual with Him, and how to get your heart ready before you pray, read the Word, or worship. Recorded to run alongside Pastor Mark's Sunday messages on the awe of God, this conversation is a tool for Focal Point leaders, Growth Group leaders, and anyone who wants to go deeper in their walk with the Lord, touching on reverence and entitlement, what the fear of the Lord really means, Moses at the burning bush, the preparation God asked of His priests, and Jesus washing His disciples' feet. One of the biggest takeaways? You can be comfortable with God without ever being casual with Him. Because of Jesus, we can come to God boldly at any time, like a child who runs straight into their father's arms. But love and entitlement are not the same thing, and remembering who we are approaching changes how we come. If you've ever felt too casual with God, or too afraid to come to Him at all, this conversation is for you.
