DiMattia’s Food Fight is more than a food podcast — it’s a fight for life
What started as a celebration of food and local culture has evolved into real conversations about recovery, resilience, identity, and the battles that shape who we become. Each episode dives into the stories behind the people — chefs, entrepreneurs, athletes, creators, and everyday fighters while using food as the common ground and life as the real opponent.
From bold, high-energy food episodes to deeply personal Fight for Life conversations, this podcast explores the wins, the losses, and everything in between. Addiction, mental health, reinvention, success, failure and nothing is off the table.
Based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but rooted in universal struggle and growth, DiMattia’s Food Fight is about showing up, staying honest, and continuing to build — no matter what you’ve been through.
Because everyone is fighting something.
And some fights are worth sharing.
An Administrative Food Fight | The Man Behind the Fight for Our Children: The Nathan Barrett Story
From the classroom to the Pennsylvania State Board of Education!
This week, I sit down with my new friend, Nathan Barrett, a man who has dedicated his career to education, leadership, and fighting for the future of our children.
Nathan is also the man responsible for introducing me to boxing legend Vinnie Paz, who recently joined me on the podcast. What started as an introduction quickly turned into a new friendship, and now Nathan joins me to share his own incredible journey.
We discuss his experiences as a teacher, principal, and school superintendent, and how his innovative approaches to education eventually led him to a seat at the table with Pennsylvania’s education leaders, helping shape policies that impact students, teachers, and schools across the Commonwealth.
We also dive into childhood trauma, learning disabilities, mental health, school safety, and the importance of understanding that every child learns differently.
This episode goes beyond education. It’s about relationships, overcoming obstacles, creating opportunities, and recognizing that sometimes the greatest impact we can make starts with the next generation.
Because fighting for our children means fighting for our future.

SHADOE STEELE: THE VOICE, THE ROAD & THE STARS | THE RUSTY FENDER STORY
My next guest at the Food Fight table is Shadoe Steele, also known as Rusty Fender — and what a road this guy has been on.
We both grew up in Old Forge, PA, but Rusty’s road took him somewhere neither of us could have imagined.
His voice took him into radio, where he spent years interviewing some of the biggest stars. Eventually, his journey went from talking to the stars to looking toward the stars, becoming involved in aerospace work connected to NASA and future space exploration. 🚀
We talk about the evolution of Shadoe Steele, the people he met along the way, where that road has taken him, and how a kid from Old Forge ended up with his sights set far beyond Earth.
The Voice. The Road. The Stars.
This is The Rusty Fender Story. 🎙️🥊🚀

UNDISPUTED FOOD FIGHT — Episode 119: Who Is Kurt Scoby? | The Man Behind the Fighter
I first met Kurt Scoby last year while I was ring announcing at the fights. From weigh-ins through fight night, he was stone-faced, locked in, and ready for battle.
Fast forward to the day of our interview. I met Kurt outside the studio before we even walked through the doors, and within minutes I realized I was meeting a completely different person. That set the tone for a great conversation at the Food Fight table—and we even introduced him to one of my favorite sparkling waters along the way.
Kurt opens up about growing up in California, his journey through sports and boxing, losing his best friend, and the road that took him from California to New York—and eventually right here to Old Forge, Pennsylvania.
Get to know the man behind the gloves, then come see the fighter when Kurt Scoby steps back into the ring at Fall Fists at Mohegan Pennsylvania. Don’t miss fight night.
