F&F C2-E137 - Eyo I Might Die T'morrah
Last we left off, the Tempests had confronted the Cult Acolyte Cedric and his entourage. After a short skirmish, Cedric was blasted "safely" inside Lakin's pocket dimension, but they would have to wait until the next morning before they could return and question him. Back in Völsung, the Tempests noticed unfamiliar sails at the docks, but first reported their success to Jarl Sigmund. The Jarl was meeting with two strangers who looked far more at home in the warmer climates of the south and seemed to have little interest in introducing themselves, or even acknowledging the Tempests at all. Sigmund asked that Skava be present when they questioned Cedric and told them to report back once they had learned something useful. With time to spare, the group headed for the docks, where Qan'Karro had been placed in charge of inspecting and organizing the growing number of incoming ships. Moriko offered to help scan the vessels with the Crystallized Neural Node, while Zaan very generously volunteered his assistance so that he could (selfishly) spend more time with his adoptive father. The next morning, Lakin, Kasumi, Pez, and Skava entered the pocket dimension prepared to resume the fight with Cedric. Pez was ready to shoot, Kasumi had an arrow prepared, and everyone expected trouble. Cedric, unfortunately, had other plans. By the time they returned, the Acolyte had succumbed to his wounds. Who knew that three bullet holes in the chest would cause all of your blood to leak out? Searching his belongings revealed a strange compass with no obvious directional markings, and seemed to not work at all while inside the pocket dimension. Lakin then used his warlock-iness to question Cedric's corpse. From the dead Acolyte, they learned that the compass points toward a Cult stronghold somewhere deep in the north. It could guide them in the right direction, but would do nothing to help them survive or navigate the brutal terrain. Cedric also revealed that there were likely hundreds of Cultists stationed there. Meanwhile, Zaan and Moriko had returned to the docks to help Qan'Karro just as another unfamiliar vessel limped into port. This one flew the colors of Harpermere and seemed to be a little worse for wear. The first ashore were Grant and Ena Harpermere, the kingdom's new King and Queen, accompanied by eight guards. Moriko's crystal immediately detected that one of them belonged to the Cult, though it was not immediately clear which one. Qan'Karro escorted Ena and her guards toward the Jarl's Longhouse while Grant stayed behind to coordinate the damaged ship and the fleet following behind it. Zaan warned the King that one of Ena's guards was a Cultist, prompting Grant to take off after them and leave Zaan alone at the docks with one very forgotten goblin who revealed himself then promptly vanished again. At the Longhouse, Qan'Karro was instructing the Queen's Guard on how best to defend the building when Grant caught up. With Moriko finally able to single out the traitor, Grant accused the guard and ordered his arrest. The Cultist managed to get one swing of his sword off before Qan'Karro promptly ham-fisted his head into the ground. We rejoin the Tempests now as Lakin, Kasumi, Pez, and Skava return from their own investigation to find Qan'Karro standing like Captain Morgan, one foot planted squarely on the subdued guard's chest. Meanwhile, Zaan is still standing all by his lonesome at the docks. We have merch! F&F C2-E136 - Muffin Tax
Last we left off, the Tempests had finally arrived in Völsung, the capital of Zaan’s home country of Rokasing. The city was packed with people, with soldiers from all across Rokasing itching for a fight. Namely, against the Cultists who had been raiding and pillaging their land. Unfortunately, the Cultists had proven slippery and are taking refuge somewhere within the blizzards to the north of the continent, an area notoriously difficult to traverse without the aid of one of the northern tribes. But that problem would have to wait, as the Tempests had discovered there were spies operating within the walls of Völsung itself. After hunting one of them down, they learned that the spy had been relaying information to a local Cult leader: an Acolyte named Cedric. Coming up with a plan to lure Cedric into the open, Moriko impersonated the now-deceased spy and contacted the acolyte using the sending stone they had found on the spy’s person. The bait? Lakin had turned against the Tempests, and the spy wanted to bring him in to be indoctrinated. Cedric agreed to a face-to-face meeting well outside the city walls. Moriko altered her form to resemble the dead spy and escorted Lakin to the meeting point, where Cedric proved hesitant to believe that Lakin had truly betrayed his companions. If Lakin wanted to prove himself, Cedric had a simple request: bring him Zaan, bound and beaten. Only then would he believe the betrayal was genuine. Lakin seemed all too happy to give Zaan a black eye, and the pair bickered the entire way back to the meeting point, doing their best to sell the idea that there had been growing discontent between them. Seeing Zaan delivered to him on a silver platter, Cedric informed Lakin that his services were no longer required. Rather than allowing Lakin to turn Zaan in himself, Cedric intended to take the prisoner and claim all the credit. After Cedric failed to cast a spell on both Lakin and Zaan, however, the trap finally snapped shut. Lakin opened a door to his pocket dimension, where Pez had been hiding the entire time, and Pez promptly ventilated the Acolyte with a barrage of magical bullets. We rejoin the Tempests now in the aftermath of a quick but bloody skirmish that left Cedric alone inside Lakin's pocket dimension and the six Cultists lying in wait now lay dead, scattered across the clearing. F&F C2-E135 - I Could Lie
Picking up where we last left off, the Tempests trekked across Rokasing and finally reached the capital city of Völsung, where they found the city packed to capacity with warriors from across the region, all ready for a fight that had yet to come. Leaving Cassie outside the walls, the Tempests entered the city in search of the Jarl or Zaan’s father, Qan’Karro, hoping to share what they had learned. They found Qan’Karro first, giving Zaan a long-awaited reunion with his father—though with everything happening around them, there was little time to enjoy it. Völsung was overflowing with fighters, with still more on the way, but the Jarl faced one rather significant problem: they had an army ready to hurl itself into battle and no idea where the enemy actually was. G3-MENI, meanwhile, was safe and about as healthy as one could reasonably expect while missing their legs. They filled the Tempests in on what little they knew, but there were still far more questions than answers. With evidence that cultists were operating inside Völsung itself, the Jarl placed the Tempests in the care of his Listener, Skava, and tasked them with rooting out the spies within the city. The hunt proved successful, followed by a rousing bout of interrogation involving chains, fire, spells, and threats of feathers. When the captive proved less useful alive than they had hoped, the Tempests turned to Lakin’s ability to negotiate with the dead instead. From the dead spy, they learned that information from within Völsung was being passed to a Cult Acolyte named Cedric. The spy had never seen Cedric’s face, however, as the Acolyte always wore a mask. The day still had one more surprise in store. During the interrogation, Kasumi was suddenly overwhelmed by a powerful sense of rage and loss—emotions that were not her own. Attempts to identify or dispel whatever magic might be affecting her revealed nothing, so the Tempests returned to Cassie, where Kasumi attempted to contact her deity, Shenshe. Through a series of signs and a brief ritual, Kasumi managed to hear the dragon god’s voice. Shenshe revealed the source of the grief Kasumi had felt: her mate, Tlazocolatl, was gone. She gave Kasumi a single task. Find him. We rejoin the Tempests now aboard Cassie, just outside the walls of Völsung, as they decide what comes next. We have merch!
