Ep 7 90’s Kid Nostalgia – How can I take your order?, Myspace, Flip Phones, Burned CD’s, First Kiss?
90’s Kids nostalgia consists of Blockbuster, playing outside, phone books, Myspace, flip phones and burned CD’s. Being born in the 90’s and raised in the early 00’s we got to enjoy the simple life but also experience the new wave of electronics. In today’s episode I will be sharing my personal nostalgic childhood memories and the struggles of growing up Latino. My childhood memories consisted of playing outside until the front porch lights turned on, reading the phone book to try to find your friend’s house phone number and getting excited that a trip to Blockbuster would end with movies and popcorn. Then came my teenage years where not only was my body changing, so was technology. My teenage memories consisted of Myspace, LimeWire, burned cd’s, mp3 players and flip phones. In the end if I could give my younger self advice, I would tell her to enjoy being a kid and that time catch up quicker than we think.

Faith Fought My Darkest Fears – fears, humbleness, growth, keep moving forward, the power of prayer
For today’s episode we will be talking about my journey with faith and how it has helped me overcome many of my dark fears. Fear is a feeling that wants to corner us and creates this crippling feeling that we can’t do something. There are many types of fears that we experience and face throughout our lives. For example, there is the fear of your past. No matter how much you think you moved on from something the feeling or experience still comes back and haunts you. There is the fear of your future. Have you ever felt like you are not doing enough, and you feel like time is running out? Also, that can go hand to hand with the fear of getting old and also relating to having the fear of death itself. With regrets and feeling like you haven’t accomplished much in your life, there is also the fear of failure. With that it can also lead to the fear of fitting in. With so much fear in this world and how much we experience you may question yourself how can I move forward? Well, that is where faith comes in. My experience with my faith has uplifted me and has also saved my life. For me I believe that faith is a sense of humbleness and with humbleness leads you to prayer. Prayer is a form of understanding you do not have full control of the situation and you need guidance. Now trusting in your prayer and having faith that God is listening is a belief. You are believing that God will answer your prayers. That is why if we can trust other people that can hurt us over time after time, then why can’t we trust in a God who is perfect? No matter how broken you may feel, if you are still breathing that means your story is not finished yet.

My Obsession Took Over My Identity – body dysphoria, diet culture, post-partum identity crises, beauty standards
On today’s episode we will be talking about my eating disorder story. Trigger warning during the whole episode we will be talking about my eating disorder (binging) and body dysphoria. Even if you personally didn’t feel like you were influenced by the diet culture, we have been exposed to it. The diet culture has made us believe that if you appear “thin” then you are a healthy individual. If you appear to look “fat” then you must not care about your well-being. We are all exposed to the diet culture through social media, social settings and our peers. In the end of the day, the diet culture is a scam. If the market can continue to make us believe they have all the solutions to our problems with a “magic pill” then they will continue to be in business. Therefore, the rich just keeps getting richer, and the poor continue to get more oppressed by false advertising. So, growing up I was exposed to all this information. I grew up being called fat and fat shamed if I would serve myself another plate of food. It was normal for my family to have the audacity to fat shame people by telling jokes. In my head I thought that feeding your body too much food would make you fat and therefore my eating disorder was born. Touching base to when I wanted to look and feel pretty, I believed that I needed to lose weight for boys to like me. I would force myself to only eat the smallest amount of food even if I was starving. Throughout my teenage years and early adulthood, I struggled with restricting myself to certain foods and then binge afterwards. After my pregnancy with my first born I was hit with the reality of post-partum recovery. This was the first time I felt like I had to work hard to lose weight. After my second pregnancy I was so obsessed about the diet culture that I didn’t want to enjoy the simple things in life. Even though I lost weight both the times, it was never good enough. I would look in the mirror and I still would see myself fat. When you live an unsatisfying life, you will never be happy. The road to recovery is not easy but, in the end, it has been the most satisfying.

My Authenticity Humiliated Me –embracing my true self, being the first born, getting bullied
In today’s episode, we are learning how to embrace our true selves. Acting like your true self can be hard sometimes. At least for me it wasn’t because I wanted to act like everyone else by choice. It was more because I didn’t know how people would treat me. Growing up I got bullied for being too nice. They would take my nice personality out of context and made me sound so superficial. Unfortunately, we live in a society where it is more normal to criticize someone rather than being nice to them. In the end of the day, I am a very empathetic person. I can say that I wear my heart on my sleeve and that it is hard for me to mask my feelings. I honestly thought that my ability to feel so deeply about people or things was a curse. I would always wish that I was like those other people who were unapologetically themselves. In my personal journey I understood that being a “people pleaser” stemmed from being the first born in my family. In my life being the first born meant that I was the “example”. I had to lead as an example regardless of if I liked it or not. I had to understand quickly that I was responsible for creating the path for my siblings. As I got older, I learned to become more confident in myself. Over time I started to appreciate and embrace my personality. I also came to an understanding that not all people are going to like me. Therefore, respectfully I learned to not care about what other people think of me and I should love my authentic self.

Ego Destroyed the Journey to my Purpose– Understanding your Calling, Reality, Burnout, Ego, Faith
In today’s episode we will be deep diving into the idea of purpose and how we can understand our calling. The road to your purpose may not be perfect but in the end it will all work out. By the end of today’s episode, I hope that instead of feeling discouraged about the unknown that you leave with an optimistic outlook of life. If you think that you do not have a purpose, you need to rethink that statement at the end. My journey to get to my purpose is ongoing and it won't stop until I make it to heaven. I will take you along in my journey and you will see that your calling has always been there underneath your nose. What is life without small setbacks and reality sneaking on you? You will see that no matter how many times you hit a wall or fall on your face you can always get back up. Sometimes we lose track of our journey that ego likes to come in and spread like a disease. Therefore, humbleness always seems to bring us back to our path, it is a sign of growth and maturity. In the end our calling will change along with the different seasons in our life. That should bring hope that no matter where you are in life your purpose has never left.

My Broken Story Almost Broke me – suicidal thoughts, depression, eating disorder, generational curses
In today’s episode I will be talking about my broken story. During this journey there will be hard topics and vulnerable moments that not a lot of people may feel comfortable with. Trigger Warning: this episode will mention suicidal thoughts, depression, eating disorder & body dysphoria. My childhood was filled with many beautiful moments, but it was also a time that birthed a lot of my dark thoughts. Being a heavier set kid came with hurtful nicknames and the pressure of wanting to look like the part of how society pictured the perfect body. Growing up and trying to find my identity in the world, I felt like I never fit in. Isolation and being bullied brought me to my lowest point of wanting to end my life. Luckily entering adulthood there were many accomplishments but also a few setbacks. Some of the setbacks was searching for “myself” again after giving birth to two beautiful children. Overall, my story is to shed light on hard topics but also give a sense of hope that no matter how broken you may feel you still have a beautiful story to tell.
