On a recent vacation, I realized something I don’t normally think about: I miss the camera zoom from my old Pro-level iPhones. Day to day, the smaller standard iPhone fits my life better. It’s easier to carry, easier to use, and more than enough for most situations.
But travel changes how you use your tech.
This episode is about how a downgrade doesn’t feel like a downgrade—until your usage shifts. It’s a reminder that the tradeoffs we make with our devices often show up on the “abnormal” days, not the normal ones. And why it’s worth thinking about those edge cases before switching products.

What Actually Worked for Me This Year
This year-end episode looks back at the tools, habits, and workflows that actually made my life easier. No hype, no perfect-device fantasy—just a real conversation about what genuinely worked for me. I talk through why I stopped chasing the “ideal” setup, how the iPad became my everyday machine, why the browser beat out a lot of dedicated apps, and the simple task system I finally stuck with. I also walk through what a normal day really looks like using these tools. It’s a practical wrap-up before the Christmas break and a reminder that the best tech is whatever helps you get through your day with less friction.

It’s Just Two Inches
In this episode, I talk about upgrading from the 11-inch to the 13-inch iPad Air and why the bigger screen completely changed how I use the iPad. I cover the flexibility of switching between keyboard mode and tablet mode, the accessibility benefits of the larger touch interface, and why I now prefer using the web versions of some apps over their iPad counterparts. It’s a look at how the iPad Air fits my workflow better than a laptop ever has.

AI For the Confused Consumer
AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini are everywhere right now, and a lot of people aren’t sure what they actually do—or whether they’re even useful. In this episode, I break them down in practical terms and explain how I think about using AI in everyday life.
I talk about treating AI like a smart intern instead of a magic brain, why you don’t need fancy prompts, and how each tool has a different sweet spot depending on the job. I also share real examples of how I use these tools for writing, planning, learning, and organizing my work.
If you’ve been curious about AI but overwhelmed by the hype, this episode is about cutting through the noise and focusing on what actually helps.

Using Magnifier, Camera, and OCR in Daily Life
In this episode, I break down how I use my iPhone as a real-world vision tool every day. I talk about the Magnifier and why it’s far more useful than the regular camera when I need to read a label, a receipt, or a tiny display on an appliance. I also get into how the camera and OCR features—like Live Text in Photos and the scanning tools in Notes—let me grab information, zoom in on details, and convert text into something I can actually work with. This is a practical look at how these features simplify daily tasks, reduce frustration, and help me stay independent.

Why Tech Reviews Don’t Apply to Real Life
In this episode, I respond to a recent discussion about the iPad and the ongoing narrative that it “doesn’t know what it wants to be.” I break down why this argument falls apart when you step outside the tech-reviewer bubble and look at how real people actually buy and use their devices. Reviewers get hardware for free, rotate gear constantly, and judge products from a perspective that most users will never experience.
I share why the iPad continues to be a practical, powerful, and enjoyable part of my daily setup, and why the tech world’s negativity around it feels disconnected from reality.

Sometimes the Browser Is Better
In this episode, I talk about why the browser is sometimes a better tool for me than dedicated apps. As someone who relies heavily on accessibility features, I’ve found that websites often give me more control, more consistency, and a clearer experience than many native apps. From better zooming and readable layouts to cross-platform flexibility, the browser often removes friction instead of adding it. I share real examples from my everyday workflow and explain how choosing the browser has helped me work faster, stay organized, and reduce visual strain. This episode is all about using the tools that truly fit your needs, even when that means ignoring the app and opening the browser instead.

THE FORGED BY JW PHILOSOPHY
In this episode, I break down the philosophy behind Forged by JW — why the idea of being “forged” influences how I approach tech, productivity, accessibility, and personal growth. I talk about the workshop mindset, the process of refining tools and systems, and how living with low vision has shaped the way I build my workflows. This episode is about embracing iteration, choosing tools that actually fit your life, and learning to create your own path instead of chasing perfection.
