Welcome to Forging Hearts. Here, we look to encourage fathers and men who follow Jesus, to dive into who He says they are. Malachi 4:6 says “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” Together we’ll dive into the Bible to see how fathers throughout time have taught their children, been challenged through various struggles, and made mistakes. What is Jesus looking to teach fathers to challenge themselves and raise God-fearing, Jesus-loving children? This is Forging Hearts and let’s learn together.
Your Walk Talks Louder: Fatherhood, Faith, and What Kids Really See
After a long break, Nick and Tanner are back—and getting real about what happens when life gets busy and intentionality slips.
In this episode, they sit down with Pastor Al to talk about a powerful truth for every father: your kids are learning more from what you live than what you say.
From growing up between Amish roots, Colorado suburbs, and missionary life in Germany, Al shares how faith was modeled in his home—not through perfection, but through grace, humility, and consistency.
This conversation dives into:
Why faith in the home is often caught, not taught
The impact of a father who lives out grace
Asking your kids for forgiveness—and why it matters
Navigating messy, real-life family dynamics
Leading spiritually even when you don’t feel qualified
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re doing enough as a dad… this episode will challenge and encourage you.

Fatherhood’s Impact on Faith
Joining us today is Dale Zimmerman, husband, father of two, Pastor, and youth leader. We'll be looking at an in-depth study released by Communio, which looks at social data gathered around faith, parenting, co-habitation, and loneliness. Although the impact of this study does cover both fathers and mothers, we will tackle some of the critical areas in which a father's involvement impacts the transition of faith to their children.
For all of the analytical minds out there, this one is for you. Although not required, we highly recommend you download and review the study yourself. The link for the study will be located at the bottom of this episode's notes.
At the beginning of this episode, we pose a trivia question. We'll transcribe that here:
Four men were playing golf. Their names were Mr. Black, Mr. White, Mr. Brown, and Mr. Blue. The caddy asked their names at the first hold. One of them, Mr. Brown, told them a lie.
1st Golfer mentioned that "the second golfer is Mr. Black."
The 2nd golfer mentioned "I am not Mr. Blue."
The 3rd golfer replied "Mr. White is the 4th golfer."
The 4th golfer did not say anything.
Which golfer is Mr. Blue?

Building a Family for the Next Generation - Part 2
Dave Musser! We'll finish out our conversation with a number of profound topics. If you still need to listen to Part 1, don't forget to go back and listen to that!
Part 1:
In today’s episode Dave Musser joins us to discuss how fathers can have a strong foundation on which to build a family. Although not intentional, this episode ran too long during our recording time that we had to break it down into two parts. Welcome to Part 1 where we kick off the conversation by taking a step back and discussing epigenetics. Don’t know what epigenetics mean? Neither did we until Dave helped us through this conversation and how this new scientific study is not only relevant for fathers today, but how the Bible spoke on it before it had a name.
Welcome to Episode 3! We hope you enjoy!

Forging Hearts Podcast Trailer
Get a little glimpse into what Forging Hearts Podcast is all about: a deep dive into Biblical Fatherhood. Malachi 4:6 says “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” We’ll dive into the Bible to see how fathers throughout time have taught their children, been challenged through various struggles, and made mistakes. What is Jesus looking to teach fathers to challenge themselves and raise God-fearing, Jesus-loving children?
There are also a number of things that arise in our culture today that the Bible doesn’t directly address. Or does it? There are many cultural issues that arise that cause heated debates in our society, and with all the noise, it can be difficult to hear what Jesus is calling families to. Yet, make no mistake, the Bible does answer some of these difficult questions.
This is Forging Hearts and let’s learn together.
