[…] He went on trial, was found guilty, and then sentenced to hang. But he didn't go to hang. He stayed in the jail, waiting for his pardon from the king. It never came, though, because the people kept it from happening. A mob stormed the jail and fulfilled the sentence themselves. And this wasn't uncommon. It was expected. Meaning Preston was still between a rock and a hard place. And his soldiers weren't in any better place because while it is, it's a tale as old as time at this point, are you culpable for following orders, which you would have been held culpable for failing to follow? And this was especially tricky for Preston because if he were acquitted, He heard there would be a mob coming after him. […]
