We spend our lives trying to avoid suffering – running from it, praying it away, pretending it doesn't belong in our story. But in God's kingdom, suffering and glory aren't opposites. They're two sides of the same cross.
In 1889, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh checked himself into an asylum after years of emotional torment. Isolated and misunderstood, he painted in bursts of anguish and brilliance. In that lonely place, he created The Starry Night – a swirl of beauty born out of deep despair.
Van Gogh once wrote, "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." He never lived to see his fame, yet his suffering gave the world light that still glows today.
That's the paradox: beauty through brokenness, glory through grief.
The apostle Paul – beaten, betrayed, and imprisoned – wrote something similar:
Romans 8:17 If we are God's children, we will get the blessings God has for his people. He will give us all that he has given Christ. But we must suffer like Christ suffered. Then we will be able to share his glory.
Jesus Himself walked that road. The cross wasn't failure – it was fulfilment. Out of His agony came redemption. Out of His wounds came life.
So when you face seasons of pain, don't assume that God's abandoned you. The same God who brought resurrection out of crucifixion can bring purpose out of your struggle.
In His story, suffering isn't the opposite of glory – it's the pathway to it. Because in the kingdom of God, even your darkest nights can paint a masterpiece of grace.

Prepare Your Heart for the Harvest
Do you ever wonder why some people seem to be flourishing in their faith while others dried up just as quickly as they began? They heard the same message, sang the same songs – but the results couldn't be more different.
So why is it that some people seem to grow so deep in faith – peaceful, fruitful, steady – while others sprout quickly and then fade away? The difference isn't the seed. It's the soil.
In the 1800s, a Scottish gardener named John Duncan became known as the "Missionary to the Jews." He wasn't famous or eloquent – just faithful. For years in Hungary he preached to small crowds, faced constant rejection, and saw almost no visible fruit.
Friends urged him to return home. But he quietly kept sowing. Decades later, long after Duncan had died, missionaries traced an entire network of Jewish believers in Eastern Europe – all of them spiritual descendants of his unseen labour. That's what good soil looks like – faithful, deep, enduring.
Jesus told a story about a farmer sowing seed. Some fell on hard paths and was eaten by birds. Some landed on rocky soil and withered in the sun. Some grew among weeds that choked. But some fell on good soil – and produced a harvest beyond imagining.
Luke 8:15 And what about the seed that fell on the good ground? That is like the people who hear God's teaching with a good, honest heart. They obey it and patiently produce a good crop.
Maybe you've been sowing prayers or love or truth – and it feels like nothing's growing. Don't stop. The seed is alive. The harvest is coming.
Just make sure the soil of your heart stays soft enough for God to grow something eternal.

When Patience Feeds Your Future
We live in a world that tells us, "Enjoy it now. You deserve it." Don't believe me? Listen to the advertising messages that inundate you day in and day out, and tell me I'm wrong. But here's the question – what if what you consume today is stealing the harvest that God intends for your tomorrow?
In the early 1900s, farmers across America's Great Plains faced drought and hardship. Many, desperate to survive, ground up their seed grain to feed their families.
Sure, it kept them alive for a week or so – but left them with nothing to plant. So the following season, their fields were barren. Short-term survival had cost them their long-term livelihood.
That's how temptation works. We trade faithfulness for comfort, patience for pleasure, obedience for what feels good right now. But every act of faith – every sacrifice, every gift, every step of obedience – is a seed. And the seed only produces a harvest when it's planted, not eaten.
Galatians 6:9 We must not get tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up.
God's blessings take time. They're grown, not grabbed. The world says, "Indulge." Jesus says, "Invest."
So when you're tempted to take the easy way out – to stop giving, stop serving, stop sowing – remember the farmer. The harvest always comes, but only to those who kept the seed in the ground.
Trust the process. Trust the timing. Because faith that waits produces fruit that lasts. Don't eat the seed. Don't get tired of doing good. You'll receive your harvest of eternal life at the right time. Don't give up.
