No Sulfites Added
At Frey Vineyards, we pride ourselves on being a no sulfites added winery, making only wines that are produced without any chemicals added. A lot of people don’t understand what sulfites are, why they are used in winemaking, and why we would choose not to use them. In this episode of Frey Vines, Molly Frey sat down with Eliza Frey to discuss all things sulfite. We hope that this will shed some light for those of you curious about this synthetic additive and why we are committed to making exclusively no sulfites added wines at Frey.

The Land
The land where your favorite Organic and Biodynamic grapes are grown is home to a diversity of wildlife. With only about 10% of the Frey home ranch property developed for housing and winery buildings, the vast majority of the landscape remains wild for our wilderness neighbors. In this episode of the Frey Vines podcast, we’ll hear from our neighbor Cathy Monroe about the many indigenous plants and animals on the land. Today’s spotlight is on the land stewardship that is a part of our way of life at Frey Vineyards. Since the 1960s, the Frey family has made a home in Redwood Valley. Located in Mendocino County, in Northern California, the wild landscape above the Tomki Road Winery is filled with redwood groves, oak woodlands, and open meadows near deep woods. Organic Grapes
Episode 2 of the Frey Vines Podcast continues to tell the story of Organic Grapes! There wasn't always an organic certification. In fact, when the Frey's first established Frey Vineyards, there wasn't a federal way to ensure that a product was organic. Today, thanks in large part to the education and activism of the Frey family, there is not only a federal organic certification for wine but also a growing number of wineries that are going organic! Learn more about how we helped pioneer the Organic wine movement in the USA by listening to our “Organic Grapes” epsiode.

Organic Origins
Welcome to the pilot episode (Season 1, Episode 1: Organic Origins) of "Frey Vines," the podcast devoted to telling the story of Organic Wine. As pioneers in Organic & Biodynamic wine, we created this podcast because we wanted to share our family’s process of building something special here in Mendocino County, the greenest American Viticultural Area (or AVA for short) in California. Wine Enthusiast declared Mendocino the AVA of the year for 2024 largely because of the wonderful, sustainably produced, and award-winning wines coming out of this beautiful region of Northern California.
With a 1/3 of California’s total organic grape production growing in this AVA, we believe that this distinction is in no small part due to the organic pioneering efforts of the Frey family. Join us for this "Organic Origins" episode to learn more about the foundations of organic wine in the USA!
