112: I Changed My Wedding Dress & Other Engagement Year Drama
I've decided to spill the tea on my engagement year and wedding planning!
Getting engaged is often portrayed as one of the happiest, most exciting times of your life. And while there was plenty of joy, I discovered that stepping into engagement was also a huge emotional, psychological and relational transition.
In this episode, I’m sharing some of the behind-the-scenes drama of my engagement year — including changing my wedding dress — and what the whole experience brought up for me.
I chat about:
Why my feelings after getting engaged weren't quite what I expected
The fear, uncertainty and doubts I experienced around getting married
Why I hated wedding dress shopping (and ultimately changed my dress!)
The pressure and guilt that came with creating the guest list
Learning how to work with my fiancé on one very big collaboration
Why I chose connection — and my relationship with my fiancé — as my north star throughout wedding planning
Navigating everyone else's opinions
Why I wanted my bridesmaids to choose their own dresses
How my engagement year became an unexpected self-healing process
Weddings, archetypes and the collective unconscious
If you're engaged, married, planning a wedding, or simply interested in the psychology of major life transitions, this is a very personal episode about everything that can sit underneath the picture-perfect version of getting married.

111: You Are Well Able (And So Is Your Client)
If you’re doubting yourself in some area of your life, or finding yourself doubting somebody else’s capacity, this episode is for you.
This week, Lisa reflects on a conversation from the Menstrual Coach Academy (https://www.menstrualcoachacademy.com/), where a student brought her fears about starting her own menstrual cycle coaching practice.
Menstrual cycle coaching can be tender, delicate and deeply personal work, particularly when supporting clients with experiences such as PMDD, endometriosis, PCOS, period pain and difficult menstrual cycles. But what happens when our desire to honour someone’s vulnerability means we begin to see them only through the lens of their struggle?
In this episode, Lisa explores the balance between tenderness and empowerment. How can we acknowledge vulnerability, pain and difficult experiences while also trusting in our own capacity and the capacity of the people we support?
Lisa chats about:
Her recent personal win of joining a new running club
Her complicated relationship with sport and exercise over the years
Learning to step into your own empowerment and believe in yourself
Making space for tenderness and vulnerability without losing sight of your strength
Power dynamics in menstrual cycle coaching and facilitation
Supporting clients without unconsciously reinforcing disempowerment
Empowerment when working with PMDD, endometriosis, PCOS, period pain and menstrual cycle challenges
Why sometimes we need the reminder: you are well able, and so is your client
Whether you’re a menstrual cycle coach, therapist, facilitator, practitioner, or simply navigating your own self-doubt, this episode is an invitation to hold both truths. You can be tender and vulnerable, and incredibly capable at the same time.
