Things Nobody Tells You, Part 5: Nobody Tells You Grief Can Look Different for Everyone
In this episode of Funeral Syllabus, Aisha Langford explores something most people never expect: how differently the people around us can respond to the very same loss.
Aisha walks through the ways grief can vary from person to person, shaped by personality, culture, generation, and lived experience. She explains why those differences can create friction within families and offers three practical ways to navigate them with more understanding and less judgment.
You'll leave this episode with a more generous perspective on how grief shows up and one quiet, reflective step you can take this week.

Things Nobody Tells You, Part 4: Nobody Tells You Your Wishes May Not Be Enough
In this episode of Funeral Syllabus, Aisha Langford addresses one of the most common assumptions in end-of-life planning; that telling your family what you want is enough.
Aisha explains why knowing what you want, agreeing about what you want, and having the legal authority to carry it out are three different things. Drawing on published research showing that surrogates incorrectly predict end-of-life treatment preferences in nearly one third of cases, she makes a compelling case for why conversations need to be backed by formal documentation.
You'll leave this episode with two simple questions to ask yourself about your own plan and a clear sense of where to start if the answer to either one is no.
This is the fourth of five episodes in the Things Nobody Tells You mini-series.
