   Certainty of our Salvation

   Certainty of Our Salvation Gal 4:1-7 we are the recipients of many aspects of salvation: regeneration, justification, conversion, union, sanctification, and adoption. 1. What you were before You were Saved. Galatians 4:1-3 1Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: You lived the life of a slave Slave to the nature inherited from Adam – things we are do by natural inclinations. Slave to the things of the world – things we learn from influences and observations. What is the first thing you remember doing that gave you guilt feelings Who was with you when that happened? What input did the person with you have? Who was the first person to make you wonder if the Bible was true? When did you first learn that the secular world has a different view of life than the Christian? When did you first learn of evolution? When were you first told that there are no real morals – we chart our own? When did you first try to tame your conscience? 2. What God has done to save you. Galatians 4:4-5 A. To Provide Redemption 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. The fulness of time: Daniel, Isaiah and others specified time and place of Messiah’s birth and purpose Daniel said it was: to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Isaiah said: 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isa 9:6-7, 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. B. To Make Adoption possible Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:23 “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Romans 9:4 “Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;” Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 3. What you are now. Galatians 4:6-7 a. Once a person is saved, they are a child of God. b. Once a person is saved, the Holy Spirit of God lives in their heart. c. The Holy Spirit within us calls out to God the Father. Because you are a child of God, you are no longer a slave. Instead, you are an heir.

   Is Every Human A Child of God?

   I. Choose Your Family a. Our origins are 1 source – Acts 17:27-29 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. b. Races or Race? 1. Races assumes many sources of human life – yet humanity shares too many similarities for this to make sense 2. Races give rise to discriminatory cast systems 3. Race indicates a human unity from One source -God c. The Great Divide of humanity 1. The God of Creation vs the god of this world 2. Jesus argument with the Pharisees – John 8: 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. 3. John’s theological statement – 1 John 3: 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. Gal 3:26 – Faith in Jesus Christ as Messiah, Saviour and Coming King makes us the family of God without exception. II. Our Family Identity vs 27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. a. The supreme significance of Baptism 1. Baptism is not a human invention. 2. Baptism was an essential part of John the Baptist, Jesus and the disciples’ ministry. 3. Baptism was always closely associated with a person’s salvation. 4. If baptism washes our sins then the cross is of no effect Acts 22:16, “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” The Texas morning was already warm and getting warmer. A friend had stopped by just to say hello, and I asked him how he intended to spend what promised to be a hot forenoon. He replied, “I’m going to go to the hardware and buy some ice cream.” Looking at him quizzically I said, “I didn’t know you could buy ice cream at the hardware.” He responded, “No. First I’m going to the hardware. Then I’m going to buy some ice cream. Two distinct activities.” 5. Baptism is not for church membership nor for marriage, but a simple and clear statement that faith in Jesus Christ has cleansed me as illustrated in this water demonstration III. Our Family Definition vs. 28, There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. a. Christianity is not defined by national identity Jew/Greek – Faith in Christ makes us one b. Christianity is not defined by social status slavery vs freeborn? The richest and poorest, the highest educated and no educated are one by faith in Jesus Christ c. Christianity is not a Gender identity issue. Two genders male/female. These are not separated at the cross – A male and female get saved in the same way – faith in Jesus Christ d. Christianity – is colour blind as well as gender blind e. The church is The Bride of Christ – All blood washed believers make up this amazing body and Christ is the Head, Husband and Final Ruler. IV. Our Family Promise vs 29, “29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Gen12:1, Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 1. The physical Jew is only blessed if he is son of Abraham by faith in Christ 2. The natural man outside of Israel is a benefactor of the blessing of Abraham by faith in Jesus Christ.

   Salvation in the Old Testamnet

   An Argument for Grace and Truth Salvation in the Old Testament Galatians 3:6-9 Gal 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. 8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. Who was Abraham? Born in Ur a city in Iraq just east of the Euphrates River It was a city of Idolatry Josh 24:2, “And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.” The Moon God was the central worship – pagan religions such as Islam have the sliver moon as symbolic of their original identity. Abram was a young man knowing only heathenism and idolatrous worship. Abram was an object of God’s Choice for all time, Matthew 3:9, “And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.” Abram was a man of Faith: Romans 4:3 “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.” Galatians 3:6, “Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” James 2:23, “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Abram Became a Man of Righteousness: By the Call of God upon him By believing God By a complete change in worship – from idolatry to the Creator God. 1 Thess 1:9, For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God” Abraham is the Prototype for all ages through to the Kingdom of God. Abraham’s faith in God is what is honoured No grandfathering by lineage Every person, Jew or Gentile must have personal faith in Jesus Christ John 8: 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. 39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Conclusion: Faith must be pure and unadulterated Faith must be personal and informed Faith is not ethnic or cultural Faith in Jesus Christ is a heart change to honour and obey Him.

   Galatians 2:1-12 King James Version 1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. 3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. 6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: 7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; 8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do. 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. 12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
