Identity Clutter: Letting Go of the Version of You That No Longer Fits

Okay so I cleaned my closet this week. And I know that sounds simple, but honestly? It cracked something open in me that I wasnât expecting.

Some things were easy to let go of. Clearly didnât fit, clearly not my style anymore, easy. But then there were other things that surprised me with how much emotional weight was behind them. And I started asking myself â why am I grieving a sweater I havenât worn in a year?

That question took me somewhere deeper. Because the truth is, the stuff is never really just stuff. And the clutter is never really just clutter.

In this episode Iâm taking you through three layers of letting go â physical, identity, and spiritual. We talk about why your brain literally resists releasing old versions of yourself, the identity stories youâve been performing that you didnât write, and the spiritual grip on outcomes and timelines that were never yours to control in the first place.

This one is personal. I share things Iâm still working through myself â including the ways Iâve been toning down my own voice to make the people around me more comfortable. And I think a lot of you are going to feel seen in this episode.

Before youâre done, I want you to sit with three questions:

* What are you keeping physically that represents a version of you thatâs already gone?

* What story are you still performing that you didnât write?

* What are you gripping that was never yours to control?

Letting go is not the loss. Itâs where the power lives. Drop your answers in the comments â Iâm doing this right alongside you.

This is a public episode. You Mattered When You Were Useful

Someone close to me left a job recently. They werenât angry. They werenât bitter.

They were hurt.

And the phrase they used to describe how it felt has stayed with me ever since.

âYou mattered when you were useful.â

In this episode, weâre talking about something most organizations never think about how they end relationships. And why the goodbye says more about your culture than the welcome ever could.

We cover:

â Why the last interaction carries more emotional weight than the firstâ The real business cost of a poorly handled departure (and what the research says)â What happens to the people who stay when someone leaves badlyâ Four things great leaders do differently when saying goodbyeâ A direct word for anyone navigating a layoff or difficult transition right now

If you lead people â or if youâve ever been on the receiving end of a departure that didnât feel right â this one is for you.

And if it resonates, would you share it with a leader in your life who needs to hear it? Thatâs how conversations like this reach the people who need them most.

This is a public episode.
