Sanditon: Fragment of a Novel by Jane Austen

Title: Sanditon: Fragment of a Novel Author: Jane Austen Narrator: a full cast, Linda Barrans, Sarah Jane Rose, Graham Scott, Denis Daly, Catherine Bilson Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 2 hours 22 minutes Release date: December 10, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: In January 1817, Jane Austen commenced work on a new novel, to which she never assigned a name. By mid-March, she had completed twelve chapters, at which time she ceased working due to illness. The unfinished work was eventually published in 1925 under its working title: Fragment of a Novel Written by Jane Austen, January–March 1817. It has since become known simply as Sanditon, and a number of completions by other authors have since been published. Mr. and Mrs. Parker are visiting Sanditon, a village on the coast of Sussex. Unfortunately, Mr. Parker suffers an injury but he receives assistance from a local farmer, Mr Heywood. The latter’s daughter, Charlotte, is of marriageable age and has three eligible suitors, including the son of local patron, Lady Denham. Lady Denham is very keen to find a suitable match for her son Sir Edward—one of Charlotte’s suitors. Accordingly, she seeks an introduction with a Miss Lambe, a wealthy young heiress from the West Indies who is to take lodgings at Sanditon. Meanwhile, Charlotte finds herself attracted to the witty and debonair Sydney. The narrative ceases at this point, with little indication about the final results of the various romantic encounters. However, it appears clear that Charlotte is intended to be the heroine of the story.

Such Is Life: Being Certain Extracts from the Diary of Tom Collins by Tom Collins

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/826287 (https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/826287) to listen full audiobooks. Title: Such Is Life: Being Certain Extracts from the Diary of Tom Collins Author: Tom Collins Narrator: Gregory Dwyer Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 16 hours 35 minutes Release date: December 3, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: This work is a collection of observations by the fictional narrator (Tom Collins) as he travels around the countryside of southern New South Wales and Victoria in the 1880s. This tale provides insight into the stories and hardships of rural dwellers in Australia in the latter half of the nineteenth century, as well as the narrator’s own philosophy of life. The original huge manuscript (1897) of Such Is Life, Being Certain Extracts from the Diary of Tom Collins, was sent to A. G. Stephens of the Bulletin. Stephens realised the merit of the text but knew it was impracticable to publish, so returned it to Furphy. Parts of the text were released in various forms, but the first complete edition was not published until 1946. Joseph Furphy, however, had died at Claremont on 13th of September 1912.

   Tono-Bungay by H.G. Wells

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/821457 (https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/821457) to listen full audiobooks. Title: Tono-Bungay Author: H.G. Wells Narrator: Marty Krz Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 14 hours 37 minutes Release date: November 12, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: “Tono-Bungay. Like Mountain Air in the Veins.” Tono-Bungay is a patented medicine that promises it all: health, beauty, and strength. George Ponderevo, the narrator of this story, is persuaded by the inventor of the medicine—his Uncle Edward—to help develop the Tono-Bungay business. George devotes seven years of his life to doing so, despite believing that the whole operation is “a damned swindle.” After breaking free in a new direction, however, George’s ties with his uncle continue to shape his life, as do various social forces. This coming-of-age novel explores themes including religious skepticism, socialism, ennui, English society, sexual relationships, and metaphysics, as George searches for an ideal to which he can devote his life. Like all Wells’s novels, Tono-Bungay abounds with social critique. This novel was published in 1909 and is semi-autobiographical.
