“Don’t trust school” Irene Daria interview

<p>Irene Daria is a cognitive developmental psychologist who runs a tutoring service in New York. Her book <em>I Didn’t Believe Him </em>which tells the story of her son who told her in kindergarten that his school wasn’t teaching him to read. She responded by telling him to trust his school. Later she learned more about the reading program the school was using and how it actually created bad habits in her son and other children and actually kept them from becoming good readers. At the time she was in graduate school and was “just a mom” and not yet a psychologist so at first she didn’t question the school and their methods. </p> <p>The conversation ranges from how people learn to read, school practices, what parents can do, the effects of age on learning to read, and much more. </p> <p><a href="http://www.stepstoreading.com/">www.StepstoReading.com</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Didnt-Believe-Him-teaching-teacher/dp/0986432954/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3GDQSW7RT88FF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1Tlvdkricf2jjCPtVCGMTA.3Ow4Rz0N9RsLBp78P1qjXoXgMVuuhmhxhNgwIYH6pDk&dib_tag=se&keywords=i+didn%27t+believe+him+irene+daria&qid=1724186336&sprefix=I+Didn%27t+Bel%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-1">I Didn’t Believe Him on Amazon</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Steps-Reading-Book-Short-Vowels/dp/B0D3M6GCHQ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1GZ1JH57UM469&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.J5Bf56wMF9KYO3968pFU_H10w4O92EdWfk4o0b2rzD6p2xzHCO2fD4PaK9FVdI7L8dTIAKg7MHuwRQiBLAYkBw7HgE4tXsC2oNchHaPvL7KsTlmXbwZwNJuiSdcrIGQCEnWavdKtZGMywQLCieY6DwNz-zBTHRZOcivn2noJoWpDUHuVDmlEO6m5cht6v5Y_FU9-rZ1b301QvzI-zLtvVeZddScuInwJWDDSRZrPzk0.wV4Oz20J1VrHu1XwqmOqSz1Bo2WPZ5gSWmrJJ664xjc&dib_tag=se&keywords=steps+to+reading+book+1+short+vowels&qid=1722886176&sprefix=Steps+to+Reading+book+1+short+vowels%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-1">Steps to Reading Book 1: Short Vowels</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Steps-Reading-Book-Blends-teach/dp/0986432970/ref=sr_1_1?crid=13IL6YQE0ZE6K&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.IgrcTtXPJS0FdGCjIYO8VEC7WJViM3Oa7rXEImlRxJtP0YT6ANmRK0fyitS5M-N6UzxrTCl7wdVc9h1GQLr_DbZkA9aOeizMycso1LdTzHyeUsg3jo844eDspNFNj2CJO60SWBReRq0CcoaM_Xih2oUINrChIKBP1Cb_lAzSI4qCJWm3-G4vPBeklJTdlk1vg_QArKcYg2iYBcsQV8dlRpb0Th2ydzNYM_sQkB_M6s8.8MWBZMoVj3AMfw6Lu2nKoIz6Gm4y9OoVa6AI868N0nc&dib_tag=se&keywords=steps+to+reading+book+2+blends&qid=1722886780&sprefix=steps+to+reading+book+2+blen%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-1">Steps to Reading Book 2: Blends</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Steps-Reading-Book-Digraphs-teach/dp/0986432989/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1TOYN77EQ89J7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VecfPFbN51_9gw8zcky_yJZipS0_erUCnJ9HnLZnqsgNfcxoI1P772aqHjxSaiQXN-JafWf7wipL1dpcOXeXZg.auBSUcEZBQkQspgnc-LXodya5sY7Ce82G-WoN3zYTxw&dib_tag=se&keywords=steps+to+reading+book+3+digraphs&qid=1722886883&sprefix=steps+to+reading+book+3+digraphs%2Caps%2C231&sr=8-1">Steps to Reading Book 3: Digraphs</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Steps-Reading-Book-Vowels-teach/dp/0986432997/ref=sr_1_1?crid=DQX6ONJXTB7L&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WGhtnnQYvkGj8rwnzHSwLdy0sQsuObBLo9RMS4lA0pqxjVAAm9c2f_Lm4mDJY_DO9iYI3o6OnEVhMdlTd7CwsWm0fQAiJbOytlXqPPR6Zzc32ZBw_Od-jNAgGyVX7vE8AVKiCKIKX9WTQ0Y2IeGtlyFgfo14-GpCqfW6YrpPOqut8Mv0K0rNnkcgBaDNS0UtkDtSEFTTkBoTCKdy01HfVAX0qTeQBf549uX5NvO1GbY.4hrsS5ouRHPzJInw04NFiy-P7gnh9e8we4xC5V-y_6c&dib_tag=se&keywords=steps+to+reading+book+4+long+vowels&qid=1722886933&sprefix=steps+to+reading+book+4+long+vowels%2Caps%2C215&sr=8-1">Steps to Reading Book 4: Long vowels</a></p> <p><br> </p> --- Support this podcast: <a href="https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/carl-p-rust/support" rel="payment">https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/carl-p-rust/support</a>
