claire rousay
For the fifth episode of our 2026 series, Jeremy and Onestraw’s Matt Sage spoke to ambient musician and composer claire rousay. From field recordings to intimate solo work to more collaborative efforts, claire is a prolific artist across multiple disciplines who creates avant-pop and dream-like textural compositions. Jeremy and Matt spoke to her about the creative process, her experience being on Thrill Jockey and the current state of what it means to be “independent.”
You can catch claire at Bug Theatre on Saturday afternoon, August 29th, with Daniel Higgs, Shane Parish and Nora Mal. That show is co-presented by our friends at OneStraw and tickets are available at ghostcayonfest.com (http://ghostcayonfest.com)

Kowloon Walled City (Scott Evans and Jon Howell)
For this episode, Brian and Sean spoke to Scott Evans (guitar/vocals) and Jon Howell (guitar) of Oakland CA’s titans of spacious and crushing metal, Kowloon Walled City. They’re a longtime favorite of ours and a band that we've been circling since the earliest days of the fest so it’s a huge deal for us to finally be bringing them out for their first-ever Denver show.
We talk about the history of the band, the challenges of making time for writing and touring opportunities between families and day jobs, Scott’s work as a recording engineer at his Antisleep Audio (https://antisleep.com/) studio, joining the Neurot Recordings family and the endless fount of inspiration that is PJ Harvey.
Kowloon Walled City will be headlining our Saturday, August 29th show at Hi-Dive along with Moor Mother, Water Damage and more. Tickets are available at ghostcanyonfest.com (http://ghostcanyonfest.com).
This episode features clips from "Clockwork" from Gambling On The Richter Scale (2009) and "Backlit" from Grievances (2015). Both are available at https://kowloonwalledcity.bandcamp.com/ (https://kowloonwalledcity.bandcamp.com/)

Steve Von Till
For the fourth episode of our 2026 series, Jeremy and Sean were joined by the legendary Steve Von Till - guitarist and co-vocalist of recently revived metal legends Neurosis and a prolific solo artist in his own right under both the Harvestman moniker and his own name. Steve is an institution in the world of heavy music, with a career spanning five decades. He’s also a genuinely sweet, open and thoughtful guy.
We largely set out to cover his solo career but veered off into multiple tangents because there was so much to discuss, including Neurosis’ upcoming performance at Fire In The Mountains in July and Steve’s musical therapy work with the Firekeeper Alliance, a wonderful non-profit that seeks to provide resources and assistance to alleviate the scourge of depression and suicide within the Blackfeet Nation of Montana. More information on that is available at firekeeperalliance.org (http://firekeeperalliance.org).
A GoFundMe to help support the Firekeeper Alliance's work by providing supplies for DIY creative projects for students at Buffalo Hide Academy in Browning, MT is also available at https://www.gofundme.com/f/creating-diy-in-the-blackfeet-nation (https://www.gofundme.com/f/creating-diy-in-the-blackfeet-nation)
This episode features clips from "Calling Down The Darkness" and "River Of No Return," both from 2025's Alone In a World Of Wounds, which is available at https://stevevontill.bandcamp.com/ (https://stevevontill.bandcamp.com/)

Water Damage (Nate Cross, Jeff Piwonka, Greg Piwonka, Travis Austin, Danielle Hills, Johnathan Horne, Thor Harris, George Dishner)
For the third episode of our 2026 series, Jeremy and Sean were joined by eight(!) members of the Austin-based repetition enthusiast collective Water Damage. Formed in 2018 by members of Spray Paint, Expensive Shit and Marriage, the group takes a laissez-faire approach to both recording and live performances, adapting its core across any number of configurations based on whoever is available. On any given night or song the band may include Mike Canin from Black Eyes on drums, Thor Harris of Thor & Friends on percussion, saxophonist Patrick Shiroishi and a multitude of other talented artists who bring their own unique voice to the drone chorus. Continuing the lineage of artists such as Faust, Tony Conrad, Steve Reich and Glenn Branca, their “Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation” approach and orthogonal use of traditional rock music instruments induces an elevated, mantra-like hypnotic state. We’re incredibly excited to bring them to Ghost Canyon this year.
Water Damage's latest album, Instruments, was released through 12XU in 2025. You can explore their studio discography at https://waterdamage12xu.bandcamp.com/ (https://waterdamage12xu.bandcamp.com/) or their catalog of live recording releases at https://waterdamageatx.bandcamp.com/ (https://waterdamageatx.bandcamp.com/)
This episode features clips from "Reel EEE" from 2024's In E and "Reel 28" from 2025's Instruments.

Silkworm (Tim Midyett)
For the second episode of our 2026 series, Jeremy and Sean were joined by Tim Midyett, bassist and co-vocalist of the legendary Silkworm. Formed in Missoula, MT in 1987, bandmates and songwriting partners Midyett, Joel RL Phelps and Andy Cohen sought their fortunes in Seattle in 1990, where they would quickly recruit powerhouse drummer Michael Dahlquist. After an early run of brilliant albums, lengthy tours and a burgeoning recording relationship with Steve Albini, Phelps departed the band in 1994. The remaining members would continue as a trio, signing to Matador for 1996's Firewater and 1997's Developer. The later-90s and early-'00s would see them sign to Touch & Go Records, with each member eventually migrating to Chicago as they adjusted to the realities of life and careers outside of being in a perennially cult-favorite rock band. Dahlquist and two friends were tragically killed in an automobile crash in July of 2005, ending the band's incredible 18-year, nine-album run. Chokes!, a posthumous EP featuring Dahlquist's final recordings, was released the following year while Cohen and Midyett would go on to form Bottomless Pit and several other beloved individual projects. Silkworm would tentatively reunite (with Phelps returning in an official capacity for the first time since 1994) for a tribute performance at Albini's memorial service in 2024, which opened the door for their widely-acclaimed recent series of shows featuring Songs: Ohia/Mint Mile vet Jeff Panall on drums. We are enormous fans and are incredibly excited to be bringing them out for this year's fest.
While not all of it is readily available, a large swath of Silkworm's discography is up at https://skwm.bandcamp.com/music (https://skwm.bandcamp.com/music) and Comedy Minus One has been doing yeoman's work to get vinyl reissues for their out-of-print records in circulation, most recently with last year's excellent 2LP rerelease of Developer (originally issued on Matador Records).
This episode features clips from "(I Hope U) Don't Survive" from 2002's Italian Platinum and "Bar Ice" from 2006's Chokes! EP.

Windy & Carl (Windy Weber and Carl Hultgren)
For the first episode of our 2026 series, Jeremy spoke to Dearborn, MI's ambient/space rock legends Windy & Carl in advance of their upcoming run of shows here in the Denver area. Formed in 1993 by the husband-and-wife duo of bassist/singer Windy Weber and guitarist Carl Hultgren, their achingly beautiful minimalist compositions draw heavily from Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine and krautrock bands like Can and Neu!. They were kind enough to walk us through their over-three decade-long career as outsider art heroes and their recent return to live performance.
Windy & Carl will be performing Saturday, May 16th at The Hayloft in Longmont with Chaz Prymek, Matthew Sage and New Standards Men and Sunday, May 17th at The Bug Theatre in Denver with Ritger and Weathers. We are proud to be co-presenting these shows with our friends at OneStraw and tickets are available at https://cached.media/onestraw (https://cached.media/onestraw) .

Black Eyes (Dan Caldas and Mike Kanin)
For this episode of the Ghost Canyon Fest podcast, Jeremy and Sean were joined by Dan Caldas and Mike Kanin of the legendary Washington D.C. band Black Eyes. Formed in 2001, the dual-vocal/dual-bass/dual-drum band released an incredible self-titled debut through Dischord Records in 2003 which showcased their frenetic approach to dub-influenced post punk. After an extensive touring and recording schedule, the band broke up in 2004 shortly before the release of their second album "Cough", which saw them add saxophone and push their sound further into experimental territory. They returned in 2023 for the 20th anniversary of their debut to huge acclaim, playing a handful of dates across the US and publishing a zine called Speaking In Tongues, which chronicles the history of the band and includes a selection of demos and live recordings documenting their original run.
Black Eyes will headline the Saturday, Aug 23 edition of the fest at Hi-Dive. Single-event and weekend passes are available now at ghostcanyonfest.com/tickets (http://ghostcanyonfest.com/tickets)
Speaking In Tongues: Black Eyes 2001-2004 is available through Bandcamp:
