Podcast Overview

I believe the principles that yoga teaches are principles I aspire to live my life by, and principles I like to share with audiences (and in particular young audiences). Yoga gives me a vocabulary for my words and a scaffolding for my thoughts. This podcast is dedicated to this journey that I am on. One that finally has me embracing my given name and enmeshing it with the practice of my homeland that is as old as the hills around me. Gitanjali means Garland of Songs. Its central theme is devotion, and its motto is ‘I am here to sing thee songs.’

Satya – Truth

Be true to yourself.

This is the only way to live in alignment with God and fulfill your Soul’s purpose. This is how you first leave the Divine for this human lifetime – with those words.

No child is born with the knowledge or ability to lie. That is a learned behavior, often learned through the parents in unexpected ways. Instead of being honest with our kids, we make up what we think are more digestible reasons for why we need to, or don’t want them to do a certain thing. This white lie that we tell them starts an avalanche effect on them and on ourselves. The more that we are unable to be truthful to ourselves or be real about who we are and how we truly show up in this lifetime. The more we erode our self-worth without ever meaning to.

This episode is also available as a blog post: http://gitanjali.yoga/2021/04/02/satya-truth/

Saucha – Purity

Saucha or Purity is a deep inner cleansing - like taking a bottle brush to your mind and getting all the gunk that is stuck in the little nooks and crannies out. And like any detox it will manifest in different ways; physically, emotionally and mentally. The key is to sit with the emotions, allow them to wash over you, but release them so they don't engulf you. Surrender them to God so that you can be free of the mental shackles that you bind yourself with. Give them over to Him. Trust that He can handle that and so much more and that only in releasing them, only in completely handing over and freeing yourself from the mind prison can you free yourself to live life wholly and completely.
