<p>Andy Burnham has received an ultimatum ahead of next week as the Makerfield MP plots to become the next Labour leader and Prime Minister.</p><br><p>Mr Burnham, who was sworn in as the MP for Makerfield after seeing off the threat from Reform UK last week, could be handed the keys to No10 as early as July 17 if he does not face a challenge to become the next Labour Party leader.</p><br><p>Ex-Health Secretary Wes Streeting and the Prime Minister's top ally Darren Jones both gave Mr Burnham a boost after ruling out standing in the race to succeed Sir Keir Starmer.</p><br><p>The former Royal Marine commando, who was first elected to the House of Commons in 2024, gave Mr Burnham an ultimatum as the silver-haired Scotsman teased about standing himself.</p><br><p>He said: "Whoever wants to lead the country, tell me what you want it to be in 2029 and 2034.</p><br><p>"Let's be really clear on the objectives you want to get to, the outcomes you want for this country. 'We Need More Male Spaces': PM's Adviser on Men and Boys Warns of Suicide Crisis

<p>The Labour MP leading the Government's work on issues affecting men and boys has called for a revival of dedicated male spaces, arguing they are vital to tackling Britain's male suicide crisis.</p><br><p>Speaking exclusively to Gloria De Piero on GB News in his first TV interview to be broadcast on Sunday, Jake Richards said communities had lost many of the institutions that once gave men a sense of purpose, identity and belonging.</p><br><p>His intervention comes in the same week that former England manager Gareth Southgate released a documentary examining the pressures facing modern boys and young men.</p><br><p>Mr Richards, who has been tasked by the Prime Minister with leading on the Government's men and boys' agenda, said Britain should do more to support places where men can come together and talk openly about their lives.</p><br><p>"I definitely think that we need those cultural institutions where men have historically and continue to come together to talk about what's going on in their lives, to have that male space," he said.</p><br><p>"There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. And indeed, it should be embraced and backed up."</p><br><p>Richards said the disappearance of traditional industries and community institutions had left many men struggling to find the same sense of purpose previous generations enjoyed.</p><br><p>"But for boys and men, there's a specific issue, because there is this cultural pressure to be the breadwinner, to have that masculine sense of purpose of achieving," he said.</p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast. <p>Pat McFadden has vowed to reform Britain' benefits system in his first interview since messages he sent to Peter Mandleson were published.</p><br><p>Speaking to GB News, the Work and Pensions Secretary spoke on the private exchange with the New Labour architect over his frustrations with Labour’s welfare agenda.</p><br><p>“Every meeting I have is 'who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others'.
